Alabama deseperate for 2015 game

Run that table and the point is moot.

On a serious note, that is excessive but man, from a fan's perspective, what a schedule. We could spit in anyone's eye when the discussion comes to SOS.

While your point about the SOS is true it wont mean much if those other teams are traveling to there bowl destinations while were at home talking about how great that OOC schedule was. LSU is tough enough and im sure the unnamed opponent will be no slouch. Scheduling Alabama would be idiotic for this program.

I agree, too much for one season. I would schedule them in different years. But, I long for the days when we could and did schedule like this.

I would rather have a regular season game with Alabama then go to the Toledo Car Parts Bowl against Central Toronto State.

If you want to be the best you have to play the best. With CMU and a FCS on the schedule it is weak even with LSU. Bring it on, we're not Rutgers.

. This program doesn't have to do anything to prove we're not Rutgers.

This program has consistently OVERSCHEDULED out of conference.

2013 - PSU, NWestern
2012 - NWestern, USC, Minny, Missouri
2011 - Wake, USC
2010 - Washington, BC
2009 - Opened with Minny, PSU, NWestern
2008 - NWestern, PSU, ND
2007 - Opened with Washington, Iowa, Illinois
2006 - Opened with Wake, Iowa, Illinois
2005 - UVA, FSU, ND
2004 - Purdue, UVA, FSU
2003 - UNC, ND
2002 - BYU, UNC, Auburn
2001 - GT, Tenn, Auburn

2000 and 1999 the OOC was light with only BYU and Michigan respectively

1998 - Opened Tenn, Michigan, and NCSt in game four.
1997 - Opened with Wisconsin, NCst, and Oklahoma
1996 and 1995 - UNC and Minn

This year UMd, ND.

You aren't going to find too many BCS programs that in 18 of the last 20 years had a minimum of two OOC BCS opponents every year.

That and a buck 50 will get you a cup of coffee, a dinged up squad, and a coach on his way out the door.

SOS, whoop the damn doo.

I would take it but like a few have said maybe the following year if that's available. Only about an hour and half road trip for me too so bring it on!

They don't give medals for scheduling like an idiot. Rutgers and Greg Schiano built their program from a doormat to a ranked team by scheduling lightly and winning. Nobody in the media pointed out that they took the easy way to the top (25 ranking). When SU was at its lowest point during the GRob era, nobody gave SU credit for having the courage to play home and homes with BCS programs. Here are the BCS programs SU faced under GRob:

2005: UVa, FSU, ND
2006: Wake, Iowa, Illinois
2007: Washington, Iowa, Illinois
2008: Northwestern, PSU, ND

These days, P5 teams play one and *maybe* two teams from P5 conferences in the OOC portion of the season. The fact that SU is playing MD and ND in 2014 is notable.

But in a season where SU is already playing LSU, there is no reason to add Bama as well.

Ya who cares about a bowl game and all the excitement and extra practice time when we can get blasted 67-0 by Alabama. Sounds awesome.

Absolutely 1000% bring that on. LSU, Bama, Clemson, & Central Mich in the Dome. FSU & Louisville on the Road.

That would be FANtastic

Would be an absolutely terrible decision by Syracuse. The football team isnt the lacrosse team.

Though I agree with your overall point, using Rutgers as a model is outdated. Yes, Schiano took advantage of the Beamer plan and had minimal success (still didn't win big games, just like Beamer), but nobody is fooled by Rutgers anymore, least of all by their pansy schedule. They will not be getting Top 25 rankings anymore without a serious change in scheduling philosophy. People are even looking at Florida and seeing there is nothing there except UGA and FSU. This does not affect your overall point, any comparison to Rutgers is distasteful.

I wasn't necessarily for the game the same year we are playing LSU, but I would love a series with the Tide. Next year, we are going to be the best we have been since 2000 IMO. I wouldn't like to play both LSU and Bama and kill our teams confidence, but if we played @Bama next year and banked a future home game at the Dome I wouldn't be disappointed because its Bama and they are a top 5 football brand and a guaranteed ridiculously loud Dome home game.

The only reason I brought it up because we only have 2 games scheduled for 2015. LSU, Central Michigan at the Dome, we will also have a D-1AA home game as well, and have an opening to accommodate Alabama.

That would certainly help sell tickets but have to think that game would be @ Bama. As others mentioned, $1 mil+ buyout if they don't make the return trip.

Syracuse could get plenty of extra practice time and bowl opportunities playing in the MAC. I prefer to see them play the best and I guess plenty of other people do to based on attendance at the dome and at the mediocre bowl games you covet.

If SU played in the MAC, it would behoove them to play both LSU and Bama in the same season. If SU played in the MAC, it wouldn't be playing FSU, Louisville and Clemson each season. Since SU is in the ACC and is already playing those ACC teams I mentioned plus LSU, there is no reason to add Bama.

It is worthy of discussion, though it would make for a tough schedule. It is definitely more fun to discuss this than some other topics.

Newsflash Syracuse doesn't play in the MAC they play in the ACC. Which means they play Clemson, Lville, Miami, Pitt, BC, and this school called Florida State, perhaps you have heard of them????

I dont covet mediocore bowl games I covet this team having a winning record, having success in the recruiting trail, continuing to rebuild back to former glory and getting to actually play in mid to good level bowls.

This team is no where near ready to play a schedule that includes LSU and Alabama in the same year not even close. What positive comes out of Syracuse getting absolutely embarrassed by Alabama in front of a non sold out stadium that would probably be half Bama fans? If you think a one time game against Alabama is going to somehow solve Syracuse's attendance issues then you dont know this program.

Correct. Not sure why some people think that playing a monster schedule and losing is better than playing a reasonable schedule and winning. As was already mentioned, this isn't hoops. Strength of schedule only matters if you are a national title contender. Playing LSU as the only BCS non-con team is fine.
