Alabama deseperate for 2015 game

What the happened to the syracusefan.com i used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest game of our lives. But you're gonna let it be the worst. Oh, we're afraid to go to Bryant-Denny Stadium with you Shrmdougluvr, we might get in trouble. Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm all-in on playing the Tide! Saban, he's a dead man ... Coker dead ... Kirby Smart ...

I think most people on this board have your love and excitement for this program, and in a vacum would love to play 'bama the same year we play LSU and FSU and Clempson etc. But the risk of losing a much needed win in a year like that or having our QB go down for the season or getting blown out on National TV could certiantly hurt the program. We are still very much rebuilding we need as much success as possible to continue to sell these recruits (which I think is the strength of this staff and is happening as we speak). The risk reward is not there in this situation in my opinion.

Suicide is painless.

Crazier things have happened. I'm speaking as a fan.

Just say the stars align and you beat bama. No one notices if you beat Colgate by 100. EVERYONE notices when you beat a Bama, LSU, FSU, etc.

Should it happen in 2015? Probably not (playing bama) but we get LSU at home. I can't even imagine this city if LSU went down in the Dome

I was a student and season ticket holder in the 90s. Plain and simple, we overscheduled.

In 1998 we played Tennessee, Michigan AND NC State out of conference while playing Miami, VaTech, and WVU in conference. It was utter insanity. I don't care how good we become, you don't schedule like that. Adding Bama in a year we have LSU, and perennial FSU and Clemson games, would be stupid.

And I get that. My point is I want Alabama - Not in 2015 you are correct - but I won't back down from that message. We have FSU and Clemson every year which is great but a 3rd Power game is HUGE.

You want to schedule Bama some year when we have Eastern Michigan, Colgate and Maryland on the schedule, knock yourself out.

But this thread is about them having an opening in 2015, right?

Wisconsin (In Cowboys stadium - yuck) is 1 that kicks off their season and then the always feared ULM Warhawks (home game)

What date would the Bama game be?

Yeah, it's like people are splintering this into two arguments. Play Bama? Yes. Play Bama in the same season as LSU? No.

All I am saying is if a deal got done and we had to go to Bama in 2015 even with the schedule we already have - Bring it. If not no big deal but I hope the discussion continues to be big names. What was this board like years ago? Oh crap we have WVU at home? Welcome a challenge do not worry from it

That is a good breakdown. I would like to play Alabama, but I think its beyond dumb to play them the same season as would play LSU, unless we had a top 10 which we won't. Thus, I would understand not playing the game.

We should always be scheduling in OOC 1 challenge game, 1 MAC 2 for 1, 1-1AA, 1 lower level BCS/AAC team. Bama could be the challenge game, but Bama/LSU is nuts in 1 year.

Everyone can make a case one way or the other - but that's why we're all fans. We're nuts! Haha. As a Syracuse fan I just get amazed people like to talk about Football in (almost) June. Keeps me going!

I wouldn't complain if Dr. Gross announced the series today I would just be shocked. Bama at the Dome would be a guaranteed jazzed up Dome to start the game. Saban owes us for 2003 as well, but I just think Bama/LSU in 1 season is like what I did when I played NCAA Football on my XBox to make up for our Big East football schedule which was locked in.

I tend to agree. FSU(NC), Bama(perennial contender), LSU(Perennial contender), Clemson(on a major upswing to Perennial contender)...that is crazy but really not much different than most SEC teams have to deal with year in and year out. Consider our most comparatively similar program in the SEC, Vanderbilt. I wonder how much more our recruiting would jump if incoming recruits knew we played an SEC schedule?

Yep and we smoked Michigan ... lost to NC Tenn on a series of BS calls and had no business losing to NC State ... at all! If we had won those games we would have been playing for a title ... period.

And if instead we had beat Colgate and Ball State instead of playing Tenn and NC St we would NOT have been playing for a title. So why play Colgate and Ball St? Some people are afraid to strive to actually compete and maybe excel. They'd rather it just look like they are excelling.

I would love to play Alabama... just not in the same year as LSU. I think it's important to get off to a strong start this season and for the next few seasons to get some of the non-diehard fans on board so we can build some momentum. Not sure playing Alabama and LSU in the same year is necessarily the way to do that

We lost to WVU that year.

We overscheduled.

Great. When SS gets fired for a string of 5 win seasons because we're playing 2 upper-tier SEC teams every year, along with FSU, Clemson, etc. then please give him a firm handshake on his way out of Manley.

Sure we would have, because we beat Miami and Virginia Tech.

One year later Virginia Tech (with our recruit Mike Vick) went 11-0 and played for a national title. Their OOC that year was James Madison, UAB, Clemson (6-6) and Virginia (7-5). They also beat us when we were ranked #16, and Miami (then #19). That was plenty to get them into a title game.

In 1998 had we, say, had an OOC of Michigan, Maryland, Colgate and Toledo, and ran the table, we totally would have made the title game.
