Lol. Griffin isn’t transferring here to be the 4th guard.

and yeah, players get better over their four years, whoopity do. Now do a list of guys who didn’t or don’t get good enough to make a difference. If it was just about time and coaching, everyone should be a 1st round pick.

they also have to have the work ethic. and our guys have some work ethic

Agree, but he could slide from SF to SG to give Buddy a rest. That would also give Bras some well-deserved minutes.

Didnt make a difference, tra

So Kadary isn't going to play then. Or is he going to spell Girard?

That's the role I think the staff has in mind. Our guard rotation is mostly interchangeable in terms of SG and Point. But in terms of handling the ball against pressure and initiating the offense, Kadary gives us great size and vision up top. There will be a transition to ACC level defenses, and who knows how fast he'll develop. But he has all the tools.

I like Griff too ... he reminds me of Josh Pace, but with an outside jumper. Hopefully he blossoms into a volume scorer for us.

I’m seeing far more talented guards in each of those years. Our starters next year aren’t close to MCW, Waiters, Triche, Rautins or Devo.

I'm going to push back on one of those because there has been a lot of revisionism regarding him. We all love him but he got a lot better after he graduated.

Let's compare at the point:
Player A: 34 mpg, 1.3 A/TO ratio, 13.6 ppg
Player B: 33 mpg, 1.9 A/TO ratio, 12.4 ppg

Lets compare at the 2 guard:
Same player A: 34 mpg, 29% from behind the arc, 13.6 ppg
Player C: 35 mpg, 37% from behind the arc, 15.3 ppg

Player A is SENIOR Triche, Player B is FRESHMAN Joe, and Player C is SOPH Buddy.

Brandon was the better defender, no argument there, but "far" more talented than the guys who were 2 and three years behind him in Buddy and Joe? I don't see it at all and the stats support me. Brandon had the flexibility to play two positions but I never felt he was more than "good" at either. Just my opinion.

Griffin is a 2g in the sense of being a wing but that is where it ends. From what I have seen of him on tape, Marek is more likely to be key as a Point Forward than Griffin to be a 4th guard. Not that he can't handle the ball but his game is a scoring wing/SF. That isn't to say he doesn't develop into being truly more of a guard but right now I don't see it.
Seems to me griffin is a more athletic Andrew white, with similar handles.

I don’t think buddy is interchangeable at all. If I had to find a list of every guard over the last ten years and make a list of most interchangeable, I’d say he might be last.

If I was making a list of best shooters, it would be different.

I was referring to the positions, not the individual skill sets of players. Agree Buddy's a catch-n-shoot 2 with his skill set.

Which is also pretty much how one would describe Andy Rautins, prior to his RS Senior season.

In fact, Andy was even more so -
didn’t somebody post not long ago that Buddy already has more career 2pt buckets than Andy did?
That an amazing stat. God Bless America!

Andy took < 154 2pt shots - over FOUR SEASONS. 127 games.
That’s barely more than 1 non-3 per game.
Attenpt. Not make.
78 made 2’s.
I know that ONE of those was a dunk. ;)

Buddy has taken 220 2’s, and if my math is correct, he’s hitting them at nearly 48%.
Most of those are the drive & pull-up variety.
That’s stellar.

While I doubt Buddy will round out his overall game as well as Andy did by his last year, he’s also ahead of the curve on offense compared to where Andy was at the same stage of his career.

I’d imagine if Andy played on this team, the stats would be much more similar. With better defense from Rautins.

I highly doubt sophomore Andy has a better impact than sophomore buddy did this past season. IMO buddy is way ahead of Andy at this stage in their respective careers.

From the perspectives of scoring and shooting, yes. Other facets (defense, passing, ball handling) - not even close.

Adding Griffin on Torvik moves us to 13th in his 2021 projections. Not bad at all.

That sounds about right to me. Syracuse is going to be a very good offensive team with Alan. He will be more efficient than Elijah was, will shoot better from the outside and I expect him to finish better.

I think he will struggle some with the 2-3, especially early in the season, but let’s face it, Elijah was never great on defense and I expect Alan is going to end up a push here. Might be a little quicker, will definitely rebound the ball better but will be late on close outs and rotations more than EH was.

Eh maybe I’ll agree with you on defense although I can’t really remember enough to argue one way or another. Up until his RS senior year I don’t remember Rautins being a good ball handler or passer at all. The redshirt year he had with the injury was very beneficial to him. The improvements he made year by year turned him into a great ball handler n passer. Still think buddy is ahead in the development curve.

I agree I think our offense will be better with him next season, his advanced numbers were really good this year. Now if we get late season Sidibe for an entire year we’ll really be cooking.

If the offense is as good as we expect and the defense can even take a little step forward we have the potential to be a top 25 team all season. Lot of ifs but it’s more than possible.

And Andy had the mixed blessing of a RS year, with the knee injury

I will give Buddy that...Andy did not become a factor until later into his RS Junior year (4th year in the program), and he really was not a force until his RS Sr year (5th year in the program)

Great shooters dont shoot 32% unless their shot selection sucks. You think he is going to shoot better taking the ridiculous shots he takes?
JG3’s shot selection better improve—or his a$$ is gonna be pasted to the bench. There will be real competition for the PG spot next year. JB is gonna be forced to play Kadary a good amount of time. The kid has great size and length and can penetrate into the lane and finish better than Joe. His abilities should translate pretty quickly to CBB, especially considering he played for one of the best prep schools in the country. Joe played a ton of minutes at PG last season because we didn’t have anyone else. Carey played very tentatively, then got injured in like the third game, and Goodine wasn’t ready to play the PG spot. Kadary will be ready.

Fair points. I agree about Triche's 3 point shooting that year. Don't know why he dropped off as much as he did. But let's remember that senior Brandon Triche played on a team with FAR more talent as well, so he wasn't forced to be the man as much as Joe was this year. I mean, MCW, Dirty, Fair, etc.

If Triche was the lone man at the point, like Joe was this year, I think you'd see better numbers from Brandon across the board.

He's still getting paid to play hoops some 8 years later. That's got to count for something.

Yeah. Triche was so effective defensively, on the boards and just a bull in the lane. He could just do things Joe and Buddy could not. He had more talent around him but he also just made winning plays night in night out.

Numbers/offense wise I think both Joe and Buddy will long run be better. Defense/rebounding they have a long ways to go to catch up.

I've watched a lot of games from 2011-2013 recently and Triche was really good at getting to the basket and really good in transition. He was not a great 3point shooter, but was above average in just about everything else. Personally I think he was a better player than Tyus Battle especially after watching those games.
