I think there’s a huge problem with how his position has been titled which ends up leading to some really bad takes here. Take a look at his responsibilities as listed on the Syracuse website:

“The primary responsibilities include scouting and recruiting, former student-athlete engagement, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, transfer portal management, and institutional fundraising in collaboration with University Advancement.”

Does that really look anything at all like what a General Manager is in sports? No it does not. It’s part Sales & Marketing Manager, part Scouting Director. The actual “General Manager” is the Athletic Director. Additionally this position reports to the head coach according to his bio - that seems dumb also. The Sales & Marketing Manager and Scouting Director report to the GM in formally professional sports - why Klein doesn’t report to Wildhack makes zero sense.

Guys thinking Klein needs to go are looking at a screwed up job title and screwed up org chart, and not recognizing those are just signs of how dysfunctional Syracuse is and not representative of reality. Very rarely is the scouting director fired when the head coach is fired in pro sports - that’s basically what folks who think Klein should be gone are advocating for. And when scouting directors are fired, it’s not national news. He could be gone at the end of this year, and he might be terrible - but I have no idea how anyone could honestly judge that. I think the ship had sailed on the job title, renaming it to something appropriate to the actual responsibilities is going to look like a demotion. But if Klein is still here next year, hopefully they at least change the org chart so he’s reporting to Wildhack.

As long as we have a new head coach next year, I’m fine. I would have preferred a new coach after last season and would still prefer a new coach on Monday…but I’ve accepted that I need to temper my expectations with Syracuse over the last 30 years.

Exactly. There were just members of the fanbase that didn't bother to read that when he was hired and assumed it was a GM just like pro sports.

I considered adding something about colleges generally picking a stupid title and Syracuse just followed the trend. Regardless - there’s no way to spin what that position is into anything anyone would consider a “General Manager” in any business.

I suspect it was a way to create a false prestige in order to attach people with high career potential to take the job. Still a bad decision.

Never understood the buzz about this guy. He gets to put 1-22 vs. top 80 KenPom opponents on his resume just like Red and Wildhack.

Gotta be honest the S&C benefits have not really been noticeable to me yet.

Kiyan has to get on a plan, and quickly.

He needs to get his body in shape to be able to really make a consistent impact.

Kline is a very nice guy. I'll root for him.

Nobody can speak about his impact as we have NO idea what the conversations are behind closed doors.

Autry obviously has final say on everything within the program - don't you think it's plausible that he may have brought guys to the table and was told no thanks?

Also, let me remind everyone on this board that this team had the talent to compete with Houston (6 NET) wire to wire and defeat Tennessee (21 NET). So is it REALLY his fault we stink, or does that probably fall on the coaching staff for its inability to maximize the talent we have on the roster?

I'm going to say the latter. And I'm going to say Kline has very little to do with the team's current record.

The Instacart shopper that spends $250 on groceries and delivers them to your door isn't responsible for you leaving the steak on the grill too long or scorching the mashed potatoes. That's your fault.

His dad got bigger after his senior year of high school, hopefully the apple doesn't fall far from the tree on that one. Kid looks 16 up close.

It is so obvious. Not a single player has played to their potential under Red. Not one.
