ALSO, just so we clear this up… 20 win seasons are not good seasons at Syracuse. 25+ is acceptable and 30+ in what every Syracuse team should strive for. 30 is a real contender.

We won 20 (19 if you don’t count Chaminade) but we were out of the tournament before December during Red’s first year. And our losses were humiliating. “20 wins” is rewriting what really happened.

Totally agree. But as you say, that can be very focused interaction. Kline seems to be suggesting that he, Red and the players were personally hurt by reading comments and messages directed their way. That it was 100% a choice to read those. It’s very easy to post on Insta or Tik Tok and never engage with comments or DMs from unknown people.

I mean, who is taking comments from “burner accounts” to heart? Immature and poorly guided people, that’s who.

if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen, this is big boy basketball, this program underperformed and underachieved and fans are going to take it out on social media, what did Kline expect, rainbows and unicorns? For a former NBA guy, he sounds naive to say the least and dare I say, meek and soft. Disclaimer: I thought he did a great job on this year's roster, I blame the coaching staff for not utilizing it right or developing it. I actually thought they would keep him on.

That is honestly good advice, However it used to be different. This place is honestly Like syracuse.com used to be. That is why people left. By the way you can an alum, former student athlete, team manager, whatever the affiliation to this university and still be a massive fan. And see the big picture beyond wins and losses especially if you were personally affected. So many people are honestly just low class human beings and they would never understand. It was every day… whether he was playing golf with onondaga members or going to dinners, it was constant. I usually golf a ton with griff and I rarely saw him unless it was for dinner

This is a general comment. 15 year+ season ticket holder. I very rarely get contacted for any type of fundraising from Syracuse University. Maybe one phone call and maybe one mailing and a few emails per year. Definitely no follow up.

Some of the non-profits I contribute to send mailings or emails on a very regular basis, maybe a couple times a month and a lot of times as part of a newsletter telling about the fundraising initiatives and how they are doing. And they are actually interesting enough that I will read them before they go in the trash.

Car dealers. I get communications from three separate car dealers that I have done business with over the years. Phone calls, emails, mailings. On an extremely regular basis. Up to five emails a week. One of the car dealers calls, emails, texts and mail stuff up to ten times a week. Very annoying, but they are easy to ignore. But if I need them, they are easily accessible.

Syracuse can definitely get more aggressive in partnering with their boosters for additional donations. I'm sure they are concentrating on the big whales, which is understandable, but what are they doing for the average guy who might be willing to give more if thrown a bone or two.

I don’t agree with some of the things our fans put out there. Whether that’s here, twitter, a burner, their real name, fake names, etc.

If you write an article and mention fans in quotations then you’ve lost all credibility. It’s all i needed to see to put a cherry on top of “you’re not cut out for this job”

If you’re focusing on the 0.05% of the fanbase, you’ve lost the 99.95%

i hear you but i think it sheds light on just how deep the impact of losing the fanbase was on this team. i think it destroyed them and their ability to compete.

argue all day if it shouldve or not...IT DID. and this article confirms that.

personally, I am very sympathetic to the players in this regard. I totally get it.

all of them had options and none of them wouldve signed up for this season if they knew how it would go back when they were getting recruited by a bunch of other schools. losing sucks.

it not about blame. i know everyone will just say man up and that thts what you get paid for etc etc

for me, its not about who to blame.

i appreciate this window on the inner workings of what went down...we dont usually get this kind of vulnerability and openness (even though i agree it is weird how out of touch he is about winning and its importance - its like he only cares about his personal experience when he has a role that is extremely public, and wants us all to see it his way)

that said, what are fans really doing when they crap on a team/coach? applying pressure, venting, letting out emotions, trying to force change, etc...and thats all valid...

but I also thougt during the season...what do fans want to happen? does skewering these guys and coach really help the team succeed? i participated too...it really hurt them and they felt it.

they needed a ton of support and didnt get it.

im not saying fans are necessarily wrong. i am glad autry wont be back above all else. he was in way over his head. so glad its over.

i think the time to crap on a team is the offseason...once its all said and done...esp if you know the school will not make a midseason change. as we knew. but thats just me.

I think this is really well said, Cardiac. It sums up much of how I feel. The only player I really think got unfairly abused was JJ. He didn't deserve much of what was said on this board and I (and others) said so much on many occasions. It got personal.

It made me feel sad for the guy at times because he seemed to carry himself very well and appeared to be a very good representative of Syracuse and a great teammate. I don't mind being critical of a player or coach but there is a line (at least in my opinion) that shouldn't get crossed if you're truly a fan.

Alex Kline published an article in the Syracuse Newspaper that I read today. It provided an insider perspective into Head Coach Adrian Autry tenure the last two years. Alex Kline spoke of the dedication, his loyalty to the players and coaches and the pressures of being a head coach. The article is Alex’s personal perspective and is well written. I believe that it reflects the honesty of how negative fan base can affect a coach’s presence of mind (mental health).

What he did not touch upon was what it is like for a new coach to directly follow a legend. In my view, it did not matter who replaced Jim Boeheim, they were most likely going to fail in the eyes of the critical Syracuse fan base. Adrian’s first team won 20 games and he was criticized that he didn’t do better. It did not end there. Believe that many of our forum was typical of this animosity.

Lets not forget that Hofstra is in the NCAAT as a 13 seed. Only 2 seeds worse than USF.
It is not like we lost to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

I was at that game, Hofstra played pretty well.
Yes, we should have won but it was not sheer humiliation.
