And our starting QB next year is....

I feel like I shouldn't be looking at the football board right now. Throwing a true freshmen, who is put into action before he's ready, with a 2nd string oline unit, under the bus is absurd. We could have Peyton Manning behind center, but with the performance put on by our right side of the line yesterday, nothing would have worked.

Eh, well, as someone that watches the game, but isn't a big football guy - I think Long looks far more impressive than Hunt at almost any point this year. He throws a tighter ball, has some touch - and just seems to the better all-around QB at this point. That's a true frosh versus a junior - which isn't saying that much for Hunt.

Hunt throws interceptions because he can't throw a football. Someone mentioned AJ being 4/6 (TD/INT), but I'd take that over the 1/4 Hunt has put up, including games against a couple crap opponents for Hunt. Long's interceptions stand out more because they've been backbreaking, but his seem more about a lack of experience - not being unable to throw a football.

Obviously the INT returned for a TD yesterday, and the one against Clemson where we had just turned them over and gave the ball right back on the first play (on that little flick that didn't get over the linebackers head) hurt us a ton. He seems to struggle a bit with people dropping back in coverage, or zone coverage - but he's a true frosh. He'll probably continue to do so this year.

With that being said, regarding yesterday, it's not every day that they defensive end dropping into coverage is a 6'6" former WR - who runs like that on the return. Most DE's are probably gassed and go down well before that. Take that one away, and we probably win...well, hopefully win (assuming the D could hold them).

I don't know, I'm still okay with Long, I had given up on Hunt for the most part.

and its a damn shame it didn't carry over to this year.

I'm wondering why. He went to the Manning Camp in the offseason which you would think would only help. In his case it clearly didn't
I don't think Hunt was as bad this year as everyone seems to think now. We moved the ball all year (including against a top Louisville Defense)-Just had problems in the red zone and much of that was due to constant penalties, which we have cut down on the last few games. Having said that, let them all compete and may the best man win.

AJ threw for 300 yards and 2 TDs behind an offensive line where everyone except Hickey was either injured, out of position, both, or totally inexperienced. The pick six was bad, but I thought it was overall a gutsy performance, but people want to sell on him?

I dont think that anyone is down on AJ just not ready to pass him the torch for good. The next three games are going to be a great experiance for him. Lets see what he does to close the season out and lets see what happens next spring. For the first time in as long as i can remember we are going to be solid at QB with very good depth. Maybe not a fantastic all around starter but four possibly five guys who can win games

we better score more than 20 this week if puitt can get 48 on duke we should at least get to 20's

Not writing him off. He is just not ready to play. But it is going to get tougher when he faces teams that have the blueprint for beating him. We have limited playbook and he is careless with the ball - he is just look at the tape. Bad luck burned his rs but it is what it is. We have no idead what he will or won't be. We do know he is not ready now.
Is he a static quantity such that a single blueprint will be sufficient? Is our offense?

What is the opposite of spoiled? That's what we are with qbs. Maybe kinda bad is ok given the circumstances but he threw quite a bit. You really should have 300 on 42 passes

Long threw for 307 yards on 42 attempts, ran for -31 yards (net yardage 276), threw for 2 TD's and had 3 turnovers against NC State at home.

Hunt threw for 294 yards on 38 attempts, ran for 25 yards (net yardage 319), scored 1 TD and had 1 turnover against nationally-ranked ND.

Offensive lines were different, but so were defenses. Which one is worse? (Notice I didn't say better - neither were better)

One is a freshman who has shown more of a potential to throw the ball. The other is a RS Junior who really hasn't. I'm 100% for Long and it's not even a question right now.

I'm 100% for winning games. Don't think Long is terrible - just don't know if we can afford to live through his growing pains while we need wins.

Moot point this year, anyway. Unlikely we are making a bowl, and unlikely Hunt is coming back.

I just don't think you can justify saying Hunt's running makes him that much better than Long (I don't think it makes him better at all). On the other hand, at this point, we know what we're getting from Hunt. Long has so much more room to grow.

Your opinion. Hunt also hasn't had the benefit of playing with an offensive coordinator that puts him in the best position to succeed. (I don't think Long has either, but that's just my opinion.)

Hunt gets a bad rap for a kid who has won more games than he has lost as the starting QB at SU - something not many can say they have done over the last decade.

Long is clearly a competitor and I appreciate his toughness, but for all those yards gained and pretty passes he threw, the team still scored under 20 points at home against a weak defense. That's nowhere near good enough to declare him the QB of the future.

Long was on his back more than a hooker at a frat party. I don't what plays he missed when he had time but he hung in there pretty well for as much pressure as he has had in the past 2 weeks. Still...too easy to tackle and has to sprint out to see the field more clearly and unless the o-line can protect him clearly in the pocket he'll have to remain doing so and take away 33% or more of the field.

I like who Hunt is. He's decent. But I wanna shoot higher than a .500 team and Hunt I don't think has the potential to do that. Long has shown more ability to throw the ball than Hunt has in all his time here. I'm not writing him off, but if hunts the answer, then I'm concerned for our future

I don't think either is the answer to be honest with you.

Unfortunately, he showed us even more at the beginning of this year.
With a completely awful OC. Hunt is better than AJ.

Umm. Ok I guess. Hunt had a completely healthy offensive line and got to play against the cupcakes too. Hunt may or may not be better than the guy who was in high school this time last year (he should be 4 years into a college program) but he is still not even a serviceable qb. As much as I root for all things Orange, he's just not a good P5 qb. Long may or may not pan out but Hunt proved he's not the answer.
