Angeli has arrived

Positive comments from Marcus Freeman:

Must...not... like...Marcus Freeman.
Must...maintain...hatred...of...Notre Dame football.

I agree that Angeli can be a good qb at SU. I don't agree that we will never see a Kyle McCord again. While McCord obviously is a good qb and had a great season (besides one game) it's not like he was Peyton Manning or Dan Marino. I think we absolutely can and should have another qb at the same level as McCord in the not too distant future.
Completely disagree (respectfully).

McCord was a unicorn -- in both skill AND production.

At the collegiate level last year, he was every bit as good as Peyton Manning or Marino. Don't let the draft disappointment cloud that.

I don't see us ever landing a player on par with McCord again -- it was absolutely lightning in a bottle. In a good way.

There is an irony that if true Pena wasn't enthused about the QB situation that it seems likely his departure freed up the NIL to improve the QB situation.
If true, that was a very good trade then as we need a solid QB much more than another Slot WR.

So would you say McNabb was not on par with McCord as a player for us?

You are literally the only person making this an issue. I think 99.999% of the fans just want a QB that will give us the best chance to win. Nobody cares about the skin color.
Heck yeah. Who wouldn't take Donovan back in heartbeat?

Heard the same with Collins. Here is the thing, Fran doesn’t want this to be a developmental year schedule aside. He is still super raw Collins.
I'm sure Fran sees this schedule as an opportunity to show the college football world that Syracuse is back and a force to be reckoned with.

I actually think that Angeli is going to light it up. We might just have our next really good QB

Right. I’ve also heard they think Collins can still be a great QB for us but may be a year away. Remember he came here knowing he may have sat behind Kyle for a year too.

I removed the post myself because the High School stats I first found were incomplete, so didn't give the full picture of his play style.

Doesn't change the fact there has still been a lot of racial stereotypes posted here. I don't think it's a bad thing to point out bias and how people are perceived even if some don't see it that way. And that some people want "a QB closer to McCord" even though Angeli is closer to Collins than McCord in style of play than a lot think.

Anyways, I'll leave it there.

I'm sure the best QB will win the job.
Funny that the board now wants a QB closer to McCord, because twenty months ago, and for the 5 years before that, the board insisted that SU needs a dual threat QB to succeed.

Yeah that's weird, right?

I think that might have been due to the lack of quality OL here at the time. With the OL Fran is bringing in a pocket passer can now succeed here as well.

McNabb was a terrific player.

He wasn't at McCord's level as a passer -- not even close.

But he did other things better than McCord.

But in terms of passing aptitude / accuracy? No contest.

That said, not sure about your point. McNabb arrived 30 years ago. Three decades. We had a huge drought after McNabb @QB that arguably lasted until Dungey, as a superior starter. In between, a bunch of warm bodies who were mostly subpar.

20+ years between those two. The notion that we should be landing guys on par with McCord regularly doesn't seem realistic. He might be a once in a lifetime caliber talent, as a passer. As evidenced by his absurd, college football leading production.

No I think he actually was like Payton Manning and Dan Marino. He was absolutely sensational

Angeli has a leg up, at least in the minds of the fans, as he's already performed well under pressure in a playoff game and a bowl game. Collins is all potential at this point.
Don’t disagree but as an avid fan for over 65 years, I have had no say in who starting QB is, no should I have any. I hope it’s a great competition and best players wins.

Yeah that's weird, right?
It’s not weird when you remember our last 4 “dual threat” QBs rarely made it through a season.

We got really lucky with McPherson, graves, mason and mcnabb hardly ever missing a game.

I think that makes the belief that we can only win with a dual threat QB even weirder.

We did because we couldn't protect, didn't have receivers who could get separation, and we didn't have an OC in the same universe as Nixon
