Another presser

In a zone played by slow players, there are many openings if properly attacked. And, Bennett knows how to easily find those open spaces. When this defense is menacing, it is when the players are long and athletic and move well together. These guys just don't add up to a solid defense. Our best potential defense is with our most athletic players on the floor. But, then we lose offense. Considering all of that, it looks like a roster issue. This team can improve, but the key is getting the bench guys ready and utilizing them correctly.

Its a pretty hilarious ask considering his son and jg combined can’t cover half that space at the top of the zone.

Its pretty hilarious that the Boeheim kids get a complete pass on this message board and from the media while their dad trashes our best player in press conferences.

Buddy is not playing anywhere close to preseason All American level and Jimmy is one of our worst free throw shooters ever for a guy who plays that much. I think Shaq shot free throws better than 56%.

AO and Stevie Thompson disagree with you.

Eh, doesn’t sound like you actually watched the press conference.

He talked about Jimmy’s FT’s.

Yep and I agree with him. But it isn’t about just FTs. I thought for sure when Jimmy got that and 1 dunk we changed the momentum for good. But we/he cannot stop anyone

Yup. Which is why more minutes for Torrence and Benny are imperative IMO. They at least have the physical tools to be good defenders. And Torrence actually tries.

Look, the players are doing everything they can….it may not always be good but they give their best…I truly believe that.

I continue to be disappointed in how Jim treats some members of the media. There is no justification for talking to people like he did in this presser and he does this a couple times a year. How in the world can the admin allow this type of deameaning behavior? Treating people in this manner gets you fired in most lines of work.

Typical JB when he loses, he treats the local reporters with total disdain and shoots their questions down with responses which cut them off, are terse and only fit his narrative. People like to make excuses for his behavior, however, judge a coach on his attitude after he loses…….he’s a bully when he loses towards the local media who ask legitimate questions and have a job to do. I would, just once, love to see Mike or Donna call him out for his abhorrent treatment of the media. I realize some find it funny, but I think it shows the man he truly is. Think of all the time he’s on with the national media, he pulls a 180, he’s glib and funny……so damn fake!

It’s cause the kids are good kids.
It’s not there fault.
They didn’t manage and create this roster.
None of the kids are the problem.
The person who built the roster deserves the criticism but the local media can’t really criticize him as SU is their meal ticket and rightfully you can’t rock the boat that way.

It’s why the student beat writers should be the ones to go with direct questions. They have nothing to lose.

JB better hope the media can keep the fans upbeat and well informed or there may be about 5,000 fans attending games during February. He better be careful. If this team continues to stink, the media can bury him and they should. They have been very reserved in their criticism of this team, but it could change if he has two road losses next week and fall to 7-8.

He’s definitely ornery and unlikable in his press conferences at times, but getting fired for cutting reporter’s questions off?

Cmon.
And he talked about his shooting percentage. He called out Jimmy 5 times.
yup. He talked about Joe and Jimmy more than anybody.

If we’re going to want him out and complain about his performance yesterday……let’s talk about why it took until the 7 minute mark to put Torrence in….and why he put Girard back in the game at the 3 minute mark? Let’s focus on things that actually matter.

Those 2 have the lowest BPM on the team. And on defense alone, Sy is still lower than Joe.

Actually Cole and Jimmy. And I believe he put Joe back in for the potential of hitting a 3 and to provide some some defensive attention away from Buddy and Cole.

You’re correct. Despite his athleticism, Smir is not a great defensive player and his rotations in the zone are not good.

Yeah but what about yesterday?

Clark ate Joe’s lunch all game long.

Symir came in and made a bunch of big plays on both ends. And then we went back with Joe - who continued to be awful.

In yesterdays game Sy had the better grades.

Those 2 have the lowest BPM on the team. And on defense alone, Sy is still lower than Joe.
That may be but Joe has been mostly useless the last 2 games. I'd rather see Torrence make errors trying to do something than to watch some of Joe's lack of attention errors. Joe provides little other than shooting right now. And Sy actually made a layup yesterday.

AO and Stevie Thompson disagree with you.

I’m adding this info (courtesy of Ray’s amazing OrangeHoops site) to provide a list of the all time worst FT shooters.

This bottom ~30 are all at or below 60% from the FT line.

There are a LOT of noteworthy names here.

Jim Brown got to the line a lot.

That may be but Joe has been mostly useless the last 2 games. I'd rather see Torrence make errors trying to do something than to watch some of Joe's lack of attention errors. Joe provides little other than shooting right now. And Sy actually made a layup yesterday.

The last two games. JB noted that also. But as expected, as soon as Joe had a bad game or bad stretch they completely overlook the first 11 games where he was one of the two most consistent players on the team and the trashing begins. Even going so far as saying he’s not a D1 player.
