Anwar Sparrow withdrawing from portal

Tbh we haven’t really lost much in the portal at all. Everyone we have lost was kinda ehhhh anyway, other than Bellamy and Barnes. Good foundation and culture being set right now.

I’ll be happy with a corner and maybe defensive end in the portal. Tbh I think that’s all we need at this point with Reed coming back at center most likely

In The Portal
Marcellus BarnesDBSo.
Brady DenaburgKSr.Minnesota
Braden DavisWRR-Jr.
Noah RosahacOLR-Fr.Delaware
Carlos Del Rio-WilsonQBR-Sr.

Jayden BellamyDBR-Jr.UCF
Lysander MoeoloDLR-Sr.
Compare that to teams with 20-30 players.

Not a guy on that list that is a huge loss.

The Gould / Bellamy thing is interesting. I believe they’re best friends and with them both going to the same school that was clearly planned. Wonder what the trigger was for it? Maybe one or the other not getting the warm and fuzzies on starting next year?

You have to wonder about players that have an opportunity but choose not to compete for the spot. That's not DART... better that they move on.

Even going back to Dino, the portal hasn’t hurt us with players leaving anywhere close to its impact on other programs.

I believe the portal closed on December 28. Unless you play after that date, then I believe you have a few days after your final game. So all our players had to hit the portal by Saturday.

I think we need more size and depth on both lines, given our schedule next year.

So don't we get back some big dline who were injured this year? Also we may get a transfer on dline whose brother committed in the most recent class. Out of Marshall. Big young man around 325 I believe.

I think the corners are a pretty big loss, considering we lose Lewis to eligibility as well.

But yeah, comparatively speaking, I think we've probably held onto talent better than most.

Honestly I think our oline will be fine. Especially with the new JUCO ruling and if a couple of those starters come back.

Defensively we’ll be fine too I think. If we add Thomas in the portal. You’ll have Thomas, Tank, Watson, Perry, Hastings and EFC on the inside. Then you’ll have on the outside Jaquez, Jobity, Simmons, David O, King Edwards, could move Perry outside too.

It will be interesting to see how two seasons of the strength and conditioning program adds up. There may be players who didn’t play this year who have made big strides in the weight room. That could affect our view of portal needs.

we need a stud lb, a stud end for a pass rush we badly need, a tough fast safety to fill clarks spot, and really need a lockdown corner. Let the young guys fight it out at the other spot. Our schedule is a nightmare next year and we really need a defense and honestly wouldnt mind the big Thomas kid who is our freshmans brother. I aint asking much lol.

Look for Ian Mcdaniels to make a big jump as a redshift freshman, got a good number of snaps in the bowl game. A full spring and summer to get from 200 to about 215-220.
With his size 6-3, 4.4 speed and 42 in vertical you are talking Tebucky Jones measurables.
That kind of safety can cover up a lot of mistakes.

I would have liked to keep Bellamy and Barnes... Them transferring means we need a transfer DB who can cover top end receivers or we need to rely heavily on inexperienced players.

We have some nice players coming in the freshman class, but none we want to be CB1 against Tennessee. If Fran thought he had that guy on the roster right now, they would have played more than Barnes and Bellamy this past season...

I'm sure we will be in contact with corner backs in the transfer season.
