To whom is that addressed? I'm mostly curious if the new coordinators are happy with all the folks who report to them, since they didn't get to fill those roles with their own candidates, or at least provide input.I can't believe this crap.. 1 year with the new coaches and you want changes. GIVE ME A BREAK !
Agreed. Determine positions and dial things in.I'd like to see the program end "cross-training" OL this spring. Find your interior guys, find your tackles, and don't move them. I think that would help. For me Vettorello needs to be shifted to tackle and they need to find probably 1-2 more interior guys to transfer in.
We have struggled to pick up blitzes, particularly the last 2 years w/o the running threat of Dungey to make defenses more cautious. A large chunk of our sacks were not guys getting overpowered, but rather confusion among the line and someone not getting blocked (while 2 guys were blocking someone else). If you judge Cav, what do value? Had good recruiting results in this cycle; Bergeron and Red two years ago; Ilaoa last cycle. Someone got Elmore playing well at his new position. Servais struggled against speed rushes — possibly due to injury. Vetterello needs to be stronger. Dakota and Bleich need to be healthy. What parts of this are on Cav?
It feels like the OL pay improves towards the end of the year every year, but why do we always struggle most of the year? Maybe they can have Dougie come in this Spring after he gets fired for a consult and give the staff some tips.I actually think the OL play improved as the season went on. Not that I think Cav Is a world
Beater. But considering we had zero depth, probably weren’t hitting live all they much during practice due to that depth, no spring ball, no team Activities, weight lifting , conditioning amd whatever else. I’m ok letting him stick around another year. Cav might also decide to hang it up on his own? Who knows, he coaches a season with while His wife was dealing with Cancer. God bless him for that

Watch your languageIf we want to hire a guy that can coach the OL lets grab Scott Fuchs? From Buffalo. Guy played OL at NDSU. OL coach at Nebraska Omaha and Wyoming. Can recruit and develop players.
What? They should all be given a free pass this year?

well there you have it - someone needs to come up with some bags before the season starts. It feels like the OL pay improves towards the end of the year every year
Barbers is going to keep him but he’s risking his coaching career at su if the OL fails.I think he's good lord'ing your comment that he's given up and the administration doesn't care... so suddenly after changing both OC and DC following a 5-7 year.
Maybe Cavanaugh is a terrible line coach, I don't know. But I'm fine giving him another year with Bleich and some more healthy humans playing along the line. Vs having to move a fullback to start at guard.
If the oline isn't fixed this year, no one gets a next year.If Dino makes an o line coach change next year I’d like to see Greg Atkins come back

Making a change doesn't normally equal instant success though either. If it's a more dynamic recruiter, great, but that won't make the OL better in 2021.
If he's better at developing players, great too, but again, that's probably something you're going to see over time, probably not right away.
If there's an issue with Cavanaugh, I'm sure Dino has some idea of what the specific problem is. Not just that the OL struggled so let's go get the next guy.
I think he could help with the OL and really help with preparation of game plans and in game adjustments.I know who I would add as a highly paid assistant head coach to help fix the OL.
Massive # of penalties, bad communication on DL stunts causing quick heavy pressure, poor decisions on who to block when guards pull on run plays. If you judge Cav, what do value? There are some that feel that Tempo is used to negate some of those intricate blitzs, and the time required to develop some of those fundamentals on the oline. I personally, have no idea. Should there be a focus on quantity over quality? That could also be a factor.Massive # of penalties, bad communication on DL stunts causing quick heavy pressure, poor decisions on who to block when guards pull on run plays.
All on Cav.
Maybe. To some degree that is like suggesting an underthrown pass, or a failure to see a secondary receiver, or grounding the ball, or not anticipating a blitz, or weak effort on a QB sneak, is on the position coach, not the player. And the unprovable claim that it would not happen with better coaching.Massive # of penalties, bad communication on DL stunts causing quick heavy pressure, poor decisions on who to block when guards pull on run plays.

It's been 3 years and he hasn't figured it out. It's not all injuries. If there's an issue with Cavanaugh, I'm sure Dino has some idea of what the specific problem is. Not just that the OL struggled so let's go get the next guy.
My guess would be there would be a battle of wills and philosophy potentially between Gilbert and Marrone. If you bring in Marrone, you would probably need to dump Gilbert. Then you would have to believe that Dino could be agreeable enough to modify his thinking some on scheme and that Marrone would be willing to as well. It would certainly be an interesting partnership but I think to much bending of wills would need to happen to make it work. They both would have to be willing to meet in the middle somewhere.I think he could help with the OL and really help with preparation of game plans and in game adjustments.
DM was very good in those areas.
Its ALWAYS on the coach. Whether its his fault or not. That's the brutal and sometimes unfair truth to this profession.Maybe. But we are trying to talk reality and not perception. Its ALWAYS on the coach. Whether its his fault or not. That's the brutal and sometimes unfair truth to this profession.
