Based on past performance and willingness to engage in a large amount of ladder climbing careerism I think dodging the Lyke bullet is worth the short term churn.

Dealing with the fallout from that, in these types of situations, is also part of the job description now for the admin.

Oh I hear you on the retirement thing, completely agree. From what I read here and don't want to write 5 paragraphs but while John was doing year to year Candace and Kent did Lyke a huge solid. Lyke started pushing against John which was a contributing factor to him throwing his hands up and retiring. Folks here said Haynie was all about Lyke as well until bad publicity hit. So it just from all the inputs on the board seems like John finally got to "it ain't worth it, I am going to retire. " Which ultimately I hope he can enjoy. My apologies Consigliere if I myself misunderstood something along the way. Certainly I am not looking to create any narrative, was just thinking from what I read John was not treated to well in the end. If he was treated well then great and I have no issue there.

Which is scary as all hell! I know they wanted a puppet, but HL would have been the worst, most divisive AD in the history of AD’s. How would that have helped the Lally’s beloved alma mater?
