Anyone know what’s up with SUfootball NIL

Also like many uber wealthy, they have the “stayed at a holiday inn” mindset permanently as it pertains to knowing whats best in every venture they put their money and energy into. Control and power becomes like a drug and with the Lally’s and everything they have done so far ( a lot to their credit) this has continued to build and add some entitlement to having the right to have a final say as though they are a majority shareholder. I’d wager others may feel the same in the football NIL space and thus we have the mess we have now. It just sucks to find something else be driven by politics, even if it’s business and higher education politics given we are subjected to enough as it is every day in general.
I think you really nailed it with your thinking here. Rich people aren't like us...

So, I have a couple of questions.

Earlier in this thread, there was a supposition that the Lally's supported Lyke because they are friends with her. Eminently believable.

However, to apparently block the hiring of the university/search comittee's preferred candidate due solely to a friendship seems a bit extreme.

How does a single donor, regardless of how influential, have the ability to block an AD candidate from being hired?

And why would donors (meaning any donor who contributes a lot of money to athletic programs) care who the AD is to that extent?

I don't get it.

The rumor is - they had their preferred candidate. They blame others for the negative article / fan backlash against Lyke. Rather than admit they were wrong about their preference for a totally incompetent candidate, they spiked other donors' preferred candidate as a revenge/power play.

Unclear whether the "compromise" candidate is someone they viewed as weak and they could control or if it was genuinely the best person for the role. I think we will know more if Lyke remains in a senior role on staff reporting to the new AD. If she does, I think that was clearly a condition on hiring Blair was he find a role for HL. If she's gone, I'll feel better about Blair.

Nothing adding to this thread but I am positive I saw Lyke running downtown this morning. When does she leave town?

Any gut feeling on directionally whether Blair can get this train on the tracks at all or still hard to tell?

If she stays on the Athletic Department is doomed and Blair was crazy to take the job.

Think way too early to know. I've heard great things about him anecdotally -- he has a lot of fans in the industry and he's apparently very likable when you meet him. So hopefully he's up to the challenge. If not, well, it's almost golf season.

Somehow I think someone like Haynie with his Military background and all the people he knows that he has met through the years.
I believe he is someone the boosters better not get on the badside of.
I think the boosters are in for a rude awakening with him as the new Chancellor.

Ok but my question still stands..what do they really gain from either being able to influence/having control over the AD?

They contribute money to the university/football program...

If they contribute to the university, they get to designate what the funds are used for...

If they contribute to the football program NIL...the coach and GM determine the roster...

What role does the AD play in the NIL process that I am not aware of that is so important?

What does someone gain from having influence on/control over the AD in this regard?

I apologize but I still don't get it.

I mean if it just an ego thing, fine. But, if so, it is an awful lot of effort for little to no tangible gain.

I got a text from a buddy that pulled me back from the ledge a bit. ✌️out to the guy who took his ball and went home. Sounds like there's a new initiative coming up with good people behind it, including new AD and Fran.

Ima have (another) cutwater, take a deep breath, and hope that people way more smarter, rational and a touch more sober than me are getting us back in the right direction

Tirico was on with Steve and Paulie today. Glowing about Blair. Also imploring SU fans and donors to stop bitching and moaning and come together for the good of the athletic department.
I don’t get it…the fans support the team in various ways….buy tix, merchandise, go to games, etc. this is a business now that the University needs to run and the board needs to oversee. If a company puts out a bad product we don’t blame our investors, good lord

Wants the fans to stop being so toxic on social media and the donors to stop complaining if they dont get their way with certain hires.
