Anyone want to defend that TO by Babers?

The objective is to win, not force the game to overtime. Overtime is a coinflip at best
Huh. And all this time I thought otherwise. Appreciate the wisdom.

Not really concerned about how Babers tries to spin it. Did anyone ask if they had a play dialed up for 4th and short, at the time that they called a run on 3rd and 2? If they didn't, that's kind of bizarre.

he must have made sure to get to Shrader before the presser and tell him to spin it his way.

Yeah but the AD probably saved a couple hundred thousand not hiring a special teams coach and that’s the real winner.

when everyone gushed about how great our special teams were it wasn’t some full time dedicated special teams coach either. It was lustig who was asst HC, WR coach and special teams coach for all units.

so, I guess that the answer to my question of "Did anyone ask if they had a play dialed up for 4th and short, at the time that they called a run on 3rd and 2" is "no"?

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't mean anything more with this repetitive post that Babers "he isn't a quick thinker". I've lived in the deep south and find it offensive.
While I appreciate that you've lived in the deep south, as a POC, I took zero offense to the comment, and didn't for a second think that it had racial connotations.

no coach ever has called a timeout to discuss strategy or play calling. Lol.

You have a practiced game plan for precisely that scenario and you stick to it. You do not waste a timeout to provide the opponent time to move down the field and win the game if you even hit the fg.

Its preparation, it’s always been an issue with the O under babers since Eric left.

Last week - no timeouts, its was a sheetshow! This week, use a timeout to get organized, how dare him.

I wish they went for it, and threw a little pop pass that used to be our money short yardage play.

Think kicking was over thought, their D is great, but at some point let it fly.

And now we have Cavanaugh’s kid continuing the Cavanaugh curse of coaching/analyst of one of the worst ranked position units in the country for SU.

Are you serious?
The mental gymnastics - and complete lack of consideration of the game situation and context - is quite impressive, at this point. Almost have to tip your cap.

Seriously. Did Szymt's GF leave him or something? He's been . . . . shaky.
I know he has been bad lately. He missed an extra point last week. However, after replaying the field goal kick, it appears that the laces of the football are facing him. What? Does the holder not practice spinning the ball to put the laces away from Szymt or at least on the side of the ball. It is humiliating watching these types of mistakes. It is high school like.

He didn't think about that before the 3rd down play? No wonder the team is so sloppy and undisciplined.
That’s been my point all year. They shouldn’t need to “think” about any play at this point. Every team should have a few “best” plays that get you a yard or two.

question for the board: I didn’t see the whole game but did we run the schrader goal line TD play again? That should be the 4th and 1 play

we have an analyst and a quality control person on staff for all 3 units. Offense, defense and special teams. They have a specific role.

Is Cavanaugh’s specific role to tank the special teams unit?

Cause it has.

yea, that’s it.

He called a timeout to challenge a 6 yard gain from inside the 10 when Clemson spiked it to give themselves one shot at the end zone and then a FG kick. They scored a TD with the extra downs.

Then followed up that fantastic sequence with the end of game “gotta think about it” timeout to give Clemson 40 seconds to attempt a game winning FG, assuming our kicking team executes the kick, which was doomed to fail because that’s what happens when you play scared.

This stuff is almost every game, it’s crazy.

Did we stop play for a review on the catch or did the officials call for a review?

What is it then?

the punter and the FG unit. The KO and punt coverage teams have done very well. The return teams are both middle of the pack in the ACC and Pena individually is 3rd on kickoff returns. So I guess if it’s an analysts fault for the bad things he must get credit for the good things.
