If we made the kick we left 40 seconds for Clemson to drive the field. Why?!?

Bigger problem with the decision to kick the FG. Prior to the attempt Szmyt was 1-4 beyond 40. Who had confidence he would make it? I sure as hell didn't. If they go for it and make the first down they still have time to move further down the field given the clock stops on the first down. I also thought they were a little too cavalier with the clock from about 2:30 on down. Needed to move with more urgency.

Classic case of transferring the pressure from the HC to the FG kicker. That way the coaching staff doesn't have to come up with the play call on 4th and one.

Ok though this is about the TO. If you're gonna kick then don't call the TO with 30 seconds left on the play clock. If he makes it then Clemson still has 40 seconds and a TO to get a score. It was stupid calling the TO at that point.

I'm okay with a timeout if you run the clock down all the way and decide to kick it. Calling it with the full play clock and then kicking makes zero sense because you leave Clemson a lot of time left. Baffling all-around.

The only reason you stop the clock there is if you are going for it. The only thing stopping the clock does is guarantee the other team has a chance to win. No win taking a timeout.. Mind blowing someone at this level actually did that

You don’t call a timeout, period, in that situation.

You have two plays ready to go - one on 3rd and then one on 4th if you’re close. Shrader should’ve been instructed to hurry up and sneak if it was 4th and short.

Our QB may struggle to pass but he’s an absolute unit who can get you a yard in that situation when you quickly go and don’t let Clemson load up.

You see teams do this all the time.

Babers was in panic mode, you can see it on the sidelines when the camera would go to him. The last minute he looked like a deer in the headlights, i'm not surprised he totally messed up on that TO.

Yeah saving the timeout and knowing you will call it before 4th no matter what would have been better. Even if we burned more time than we wanted.

A hurry up sneak would have been ideal.

Even if your decision is to kick the fg you need to understand clock management. Best case scenario you make the kick… ok now Clemson gets it back with a chance to win with time to drive.

These are just indefensible decisions you don’t have to be a genius to understand this stuff.

He didn't think about that before the 3rd down play? No wonder the team is so sloppy and undisciplined.
