I wonder if the writer of this episode doesn't know Syracuse has left Big East for ACC. He or she just assume the main character lives near Boston so wrote him as a Syracuse fan. To the general public that doesn't follow college basketball, he or she may assume Syracuse equals Big East equals Northeast of the country. By the way, in the end of the episode, when he was about to watch Big East tournament, his house lost electricity. So no audience know how Syracuse did in that alternative Earth this year.
