Anyone who thinks Fran isn’t our guy needs to stop huffing keyboard duster and get back to reality

The ND game was bad. This season was bad. It was doomed and lost after Angeli went out. There is no realistic option who will be able to get our program to primetime. Not now, probably not within the next 25 years.

Let him get coaching reps and just accept that this is a lost season. People are so quick to forget that we just came off a 10 win season. Because they’re huffing keybord duster.

Come back to reality and chill out. If anything this is the best time to offer Fran an extension and lock him

Exactly! Great post! Everyone thinks they have the answers sitting behind a keyboard! It takes more than 2 years to rebuild! Last year was great! This year we lost Angeli and have many other injuries! Good things are to come! All the negativity and bashing is not good for recruiting. Fan support is a huge part of a programs success in both good and bad times!

I agree, Fran.

Yes. Next year isn't make-or-break. We're going to need 2 years to see the best results. I just want 2026 not to look like 2025.
Next year is critical. Fran is almost surely on a four year deal. If there's not progress next year renewal before (not during) year four is problematic, and without renewal recruiting starts to fall apart.
This is a story line we unfortunately are quite familiar with.

Aren't most HCs on 6 year contracts nowadays? Maybe we got 5 years because he had no prior experience and we were taking a risk. No way he is only on a 4 year deal. Especially with his agent.

No prior hc experience, no P4 coordinator experience and no other known offers. Plus SU was coming off Dino's buyout and is not a wealthy school. If Wildhack gave 5-6 years I'm even less impressed with his acumen.

I have been fortunate to have spent time with Fran the staff and the kids. What i know for sure is that Fran and the entire football organization is committed to excellence, committed to the well-being of the kids. Fran is as real and genuine as you will ever find. He has dedicated himself to helping these kids and their families. The support staff of the football program is fantastic. To a person they are hardworking, kind, and they have the kids' best interest at heart. I believe that within two years Fran will have this program at a place it hasn't been in modern times. A program that is built to last with a culture to match. The wheels came off this season when Steve went down and Collins failed. Its as simple as that. Everything else is secondary and a result of those two events. I have posted that i believe that Fran is going to do much more in life than be a football coach and i stand by that. He is a very good individual. A great husband, father and friend. He is fiercly loyal maybe to a fault with those that he loves like Erob but if that is his worst trait ill give him a pass. Fran connects with our core recruiting base. I wish you could see him with recruits and their families.
These famalies be it Mom and Dad or grandparents who are raising our future players all connect with Fran. He knows their lives knows their struggles and they trust him.
Fran has much to learn as a coach and I believe he will as he puts in the work and is hardest on himself.
I think he is a class act and I'm glad that he is leading our program and our young men. He has made me proud to be associated with Syracuse football again. I'm all in with him.
It's never that simple. And it is insulting to blame a 20-year-old for a team regressing substantially as the season wore on. The job of the OC is to find a way to score points with whatever is left of the team each week. Game 11 did not look much different than Game 5 in terms of play calls. By Game 7, it was clear that we could not do the McCord/Angeli offense with even 33% the effectiveness. Instead, we just tried using different players.

The problem is my mind is the staff thinking they had a backup plan. They did not and that’s coaching malpractice. Crap happens, I get it. But not having someone serviceable after all the qb competition nonsense they were trying to stuff down our throats is unacceptable.

Fran is still the guy. He’s learning. I think this will be a tremendous learning experience for him.
They did have a backup plan. But they thought it was "put QB#2 in and call the same plays you would for QB#1."

Ok I'll bite, here are a few reasons to be confident Fran is more likely to be the guy than not.

13-4 in his first 17 games with his starting QB, including a win against top 10 Miami and @ Death Valley (2 diff QBs)

Several Players had step function increases in productivity under Fran than before Fran

1. Kyle McCord went from Decent/Good to the ALL TIME ACC LEADER

2. Trebor Pena went from 4 years of nothing to Elite (Million dollar NIL) back to mid under PSU

3. Fadil Diggs doubled his all time sack total while increasing his TFL to 14 (6th in ACC)

4. J Meeks went from 4 year bench rider to top of the ACC and NFL player

5. LQA doubled his touchdowns from 10 to 20 while increasing YPC and recieving yards, getting him NFL pay a year early

6. Darrell Gil went from 0 playing time to leading the entire ACC in yards per catch w/ 570 total yards (and continued that production under Angeli)

7. Steve Angeli went from 4 years of bench to leading the ACC in passing, with only a summer to prep

8. Chris Peal went from 2 years of bench to a leading ACC CB (ranked 18 out of 267 P4 corners)

I won't give him credit for Cinco, Barron or Wax but I am not sure many people had them on NFL rosters but they all made it

Add in the best recruiting class in 30 years including the highest rated recruit ever with a median (or worse) NIL budget (not even including bringing in 2 of the best QBs we have had since McNabb)

BTW this median or worse NIL is single handedly getting more competitive because of Frans efforts
I don’t think anyone can argue about last years coaching other than Stanford which most just chalked up to a learning curve and moved on. A boneheaded play call but still moved on.

Peal and Gill are the only ones on that list on this years team. Peal is playing great. Gill has the same numbers as last year with one game to go. That’s progress I guess.

What happens if Angeli has a setback and can’t play until game 4 next year, do we not expect the coaches to have a plan and have others step up at other positions or do we just say Angeli isn’t playing so we’re going to lose those first 3 games?

The issue for me isn’t that Fran’s not the guy, it’s that’s Fran’s guys aren’t the guys and I’m worried he’s too loyal to boot them to the curb.
Nixon is good when he has a competent QB, but I haven’t really loved what I’ve seen from Erob.

Which guys do you want booted?

ERob, and maybe Nunz not acting as QB coach
Don Brown made everyone happy for one week. But a competent OC/QB will take advantage of a blitz-happy system. So we have to react to that. In any event, I think the smart move is to bring in a co-DC to call plays and have ERob continue the recruiting/be down on the field with the players/DL coach. No need to fire ERob or even truly demote him. Win/win for everyone.

yes, he's got next year to fix it, 5 wins or fewer he's gone

ERob, o line, and maybe Nunz not acting as QB coach
Nunzio is gone by his own choice, he was the fall guy for the lousy QB room beyond Angeli. He was McCord's QB coach when he set the world on fire, what changed this year? Did Nunzio suddenly forget how to coach? What changed is the backup QBs stunk. He'll end up back at Rutgers and recruit against us in NJ.

McCord was already fantastic. He only threw 6 pics his junior year, had basically the same completion % and had a better YPA. The only difference was Nixon let him throw 40 times a game his senior year. His TD% was actually better his junior year

Fran reminds me of Slot at Liverpool. Monster first season, no show second.

Arne will probably be sacked because expectations in Liverpool > Syracuse but the down draft is pronounced at both spots.

I’d like to keep E-Rob on the staff for recruiting purposes but he can’t run the defense anymore. Special teams made a huge leap from last year after moving on from that guy (sans ND game) so hopefully Fran makes it happen. There’s no reason not to be great in all facets of the game.
Who has ERob been credited with recruiting?

Guy is borderline dumb w these game plans. I wouldn’t keep him to maintain the turf.
borderline is far too nice. If he is the DC next year the offense will need to be great to just be a .500 team

Fran 100% can't have EROB as his DC next year, he's sabotaging his own career if he does and that's his choice

But the recruiting is great. If this is great recruiting then I’m blind.

Bring me Don Brown. Or go get Shafer. At least Scotty knew how to dial up an aggressive d

it's the portal recruiting that will make or break Fran for next year. Listening to him he has changed gears on the portal very recently which is wise but funny how he i kind of scrambling now. He's brought in some solid talent the problem is there are still plenty of developmental players that have been brought in, how many of the kids from the 25 and 26 classes are really going to make a difference next year? I don't know but year 3 has to be 6-7 wins and right the ship, year 4 has to be Fran has had enough time to build the foundation, had enough recruiting classes where we don't get the give it time etc etc.

Recruiting isn't going to guarantee success by any means and some fans really enjoy following it and it's fun to get 4 star kids etc etc but at the end of the day at some point it will only be about wins/ losses, By that time, he will have been able to tweak the staff as well. It's not a big deal to be a first time coach and admit you made some poor hires and correct mistakes, it just happens that his biggest mistake is his buddy but they all know the business.

Let’s hope so. Cant have another Nintendo reset button season. I can’t imagine what season ticket sales will look like next year coming off this one.
