So glad Syracuse is not pursuing him any longer. Don't get me wrong, I love watching him and have respect for the way he brings it. It's just that I would rather be viewing him from afar with a certain amount of curiosity and wonderment than having him trying to defend at the top of our zone. Everytime I look back to the Micheal Edwards days I cringe. Blue Ribbion, the bible of basketball recruiting information before the internet, said something like this of Micheal, super quick, with great range, a great ball handler. He averaged something like 27 ppg in high school.

No, I'd rather have physically strong, athletic and taller guards.

taller guards with no game who can't hit a outside basketball , it's apparent that can not evaluate basketball talent .
This kid is a stud !!!

Nate Robinson, Kemba Walker, Earl Boykins. I would have loved to have any of them on our previous teams. I'd take Carr to.

Cuse town thank you !!! Some individuals never played a basketball game in their life & want to be commenters ..

The problem with 5'-6'' guards is that they become a serious defensive liability at the top of the zone. If we were a man 2 man team, I don't think it would be a problem.

Wow .. a Newbie slapping around OE??!! Hmmmm. Nope don't need a 5'6" run and gun type ... especially in our defensive set up. He will be great for a team that plays m2m constantly ... but definitely not tall enough orlong enough for SU style of play. I will take Whitehead anyday over Carr.

You can't post a 5"6 guard up in a zone defense to take advantage of his height , this 5'6 person isn't playing center .
if you know the syracuse zone anyone can shoot the ball from the top of the key .
A. Carr has major talent & could drop a group 30 on anyone .

Post fail. You clearly show lack of knowledge of Syracuse's 2-3 zone.

i hope he does not sign with a Big East team because you will have a change of mind , the kid has two years of high school basketball left & will continue to improve , his height may round out to 6"0 & even if he does not i would not pass him up for the world .

Considering we will be in the ACC by the time he arrives on a college campus, I don't think it will really matter.

Knowledge of the zone , hands up , Moving with the player who has the ball . If a shooter shoots over him what would his percentage be ? not over 40% . How much offense , ball control ,speed , skills & Steals would he provide for you ?
No player game is perfect .

I think he could work and love the scoring ability. That's all I was saying.

Yes, you want system fits within talent parameters, but if a kid is so good and so talented that he is outside of those parameters then it is silly to say that we don't want that kid in principal. Now, whether or not AC is a talent of that magnitude, I do not know, but if he is then it is simply foolish to pass him by.

Everytime, I think about great small men, it brings me back to my time at the Cuse & watching Calvin Murphy destroy us. In those days we had a pretty big time talent in Ernie Austin, personally recruited by Dave Bing, but Calvin just ate him & the rest of our teams alive.

Yes, there is room for a diminutive player of sufficient talent...even in our Zone.

The kid performs well he has a tremendous upside . He would provide syracuse with a spark plug that no team could turn off . It's to early to turn him away he has two years to continue to develop .

This isn't junior varsity. There's a lot more to it than "hands up and moving with the player who has the ball". Denial of the entry pass to the high post, trapping in the corners, offensive rebounding position, getting out on shooters past 20', face guarding...and that's just the start of it.

Don't get technical now. The kid can drop 30 any time he wants. And he's only a soph? We would never get beat. Alert will alert other teams the kid can't be stopped. What an analysis and knowing so much about our zone too! I'm impressed!

Seattle - that was all sarcasm, just so you know. I totally agree with you on this.

My sarcasm meter went off with "don't get technical".:D

Dude, OE was expressing an opinion, not being a commentator. Since you are a newbie you need to know that Dan is an institutuion on this board. A little respect for him, please.

I might counter that some individuals cannot construct a coherent sentance or paragraph and want to be commentators...

First of all, attacking one of the most valued members of the board in OE probably won't get you very far.

Secondly, being effective in this zone as a G or wing is all about covering space and cutting down passing angles. Thus, the emphasis on length/wingspan, etc. and why Carr would likely be a liability. No one's saying he's going to be posted up 20 ft from the basket...pretty absurd strawman you just set up there.

The young guy can't do it ? You are suggesting that it could not be done ? I think that you are wrong . Syracuse has had Johnny flynn , Edwards , Gerry mac , along with other guards who were not six feet tall . Do not act like its not possible
do your homework pal !!!

Yes, we've had those guards that were short...and our zone SUCKED because of their defensive liability at the top of the zone. But even all of the guys you mentioned were 6 feet tall. Carr is giving up 6 inches to GMac...that's pretty small!

You're swimming with the big boys now. This board is filled with knowledgeable SU fans that have been watching our team for decades. We are well aware of what works and what doesn't work for our team and system. Your arguments might work at the junior high lunch table, but they won't go far here.

Dude no one is attacking anyone so slow down !! i may be new this but i have been a cuse fan since 86 , i know the game very well , my knowledge & skills are not far apart , i was expressing my opinion .

Our zone did not suck then the rest of the teams had better talent !! Do your homework !!

This is the first statement that I will agree with you on, as I am sure they are both very limited.

Dude is 5'6. Jonny Flynn is listed at 6'0. GMac was listed (generously) at 6'2. If you're going to condescendingly tell someone to do their homework you should probably make sure your facts are correct first.
