Are we bad or is LeMoyne decent?

I didn't watch the game, but I thought Le Moyne looked much better than expected. They'll win games this year for sure.
If you didn’t watch the game how would you know if they looked better than expected?

Going to take time to jell. A lot of first game jitters and not knowing exactly what their roles on the team are at his point. Before tonight, only two of our main players had ever played a college game together.

We'll get better.

They played like sht in game one and almost had a lead wait around their necks for the entire year. I'm optimistic it functions as a wake-up call.

...Or it was just foreshadowing for our upcoming semi-annual loss to toothpaste.

How many times did we step out of bounds and how many missed FTs - hard to say we suck - definitely some positive things - we are physical and big - we have a PG problem and Starling doesn't look like he has improved (in the one game Ive seen)

We haven't yet jelled offensively or defensively. A lot of work needs to be done during practice and our position coaches need to step up. Duke, like many teams in this portal age have been completely overhauled and they played like a team last night against Maine (game can be viewed on the ESPN app).

I was looking for Bell to move around on offense and screens being set to free him up, but that didn't happen. Bell is a weak defender so I don't understand why he was always guarding guys knocking down threes. Lampkin cannot play against teams that do not utilize a traditional center, so that was one good adjustment made by Red by taking him out of the game early. I would have liked to see more of Choppa. Imagine running an offense with screens and movement to free up Choppa and Bell with both shooters on the floor at the same time?

We have a week to prepare for Colgate who will study the tape of yesterday's game and will come into the Dome confident and full of hope.

Big Eddie can’t. Not sure Donnie knows how. Carlos too small and seems a step slow too. Could not keep in front of his man.
Being small shouldn’t prevent you from playing defense against smaller guards.

if we are going to miss short shots. shoot 3s poorly and not make FTs at a good clip and find a way to still score 85+ there is some hope.

the D, not sure. I did think Lem did a good job of hitting their open shots though.

Look forward to when they lose by 40 in the coming games (I have no idea their schedule).
LeMoyne plays storz later this month. I might have to make a run to the border and lay the lumber.

Le Moyne season ticket holder here (and SU fan). The result shows more struggles for SU than anything else. Le Moyne is projected 4th out of 9 in the NEC which is the poorest ranked conference in D1. Four players I’d project as starters were injured before the game or exited the game for good with an injury. The guys on the floor in the 2nd half were mostly true freshman and top bench players.
So Lemoyne's B-team almost beat us? That's not comforting.

I'm not sure if LeMoyne is decent, but I suspect they are better than the #336 ranking they had in KP before the game (which drove the line).

They were #302 last year in their first year so a drop seemed odd - of course with all the moving parts how do you accurately measure a team to start especially at the bottom, and I know nothing about a team.

I was wondering about Bell chasing their shooter too. Guess in truth with that lineup what's your other option? JJ yikes, Carlos too small and our bigs can't move. I can't believe I'm typing this but Bell may have been out best defensive option.

Granted it was rough but when Cuse was up 7 or 8 they called Bell for a horrific foul when that Pauls guy flailed his legs in the corner to get 3 FTs.

The refs shouldn't allow that crap. Cuse should have gotten the ball and then put the game away for good. That let LeMoyne really stay in.

We are going to have the same problem as last year. We need Bell on the court for his outside shooting but he's a horrible defender. He can't stay in front of his man and is beat off the dribble at will. To compensate he plays off his man a good amount so a good shooter has a lot of space. The overall team defense was disappointing.

No one should listen to me cuz idk what I’m talking about…. But lemoyne looked good to me last night. I also was impressed with Stanford football after they beat us and they’ve done nothing but lose since then lol I’m sure lemoyne isn’t that great but I thought they brought a lot of energy last night and they exposed our defense by taking our bigs out of the lane. There was rarely any help defense. That needs to be fixed, but it might fix itself against teams that play a more traditional style. Not that that excuses the terrible defense cuz it seemed like no one could stay in front of their man… a long winded way to say… let’s see a few more games first.

You don’t need to know roles to play team defense. And it looks no different than last year.

Correct. For the most part Bell was guarding #12. That guy scored 18 but was 4/12 shooting with 3/11 from 3.
