At least we're not UConn v2022

Will there even be an "At least we're not UConn v2032" thread?
Or...

I dont think the game will be a cake walk.. I think it can, but I doubt it is.. Uconn is not nearly as bad as so many here seem to think. They had every chance to win that game last week.

they also think they can beat us after what we showed last year.

They’re bad and their current starting QB went a whopping 12 of 31 for 109 and 2 INTs. They’re bad, and us fans don’t have to pretend they’re not. Could their RB get his? Sure, but that’s not going to overcome the 40+ Syracuse will score.

the backup played ok last week.. they are a physical team and will be hyped up at home.
My other post has his stats also, but 12/31 for 109 and 2 INTs is not “ok” lol that’s abysmal

They had 3 explosive plays and a lot of nothing vs a mediocre g5 school in week 0

We’ll be favored by 21

I only watched parts of the game but from what I saw, UConn went with a super heavy package on offense at least parts of the game. Played 6 OL and also had a TE in there.

Utah State was unprepared and was very slow to react to it. They got out coached badly. I was surprised at how bad a job the Utah State coaches did.

That said, they play Alabama this week. I suspect they ignored UConn completed throughout their preseason, and didn't use much of their play book on offense or defense against the Huskies to show Bama as little as possible.

Still was a great effort by UConn. I was especially impressed by their defense, which was vastly improved from the last 5 or 10 years. They actually looked like a somewhat decent group. And they lost their DC a week or so before the game.

Whoever stepped in as the DC did a great job. Looking at their staff, I am thinking it was Diet Tab. Again, only saw bits and pieces of the game but they showed him (I think it was him; he had a big beard I haven't seen on him before so I can't be sure) with a headset on appearing to give orders a few times.

Can anyone confirm who the UConn acting DC is? I am sure it will come up before the SU game...

Isn’t Tab diet by definition?

That was an Orangeyes nickname. A bunch of us on the board went to an open practice (it was at Manley) circa 2011.

Siriki had just joined the team from JUCO. Believe it was our first time seeing him practice and he made an impression on us. We started talking about him.

Orangeyes:

"What is that guy's name again?"

Me:

"DI-A-BOT-TAY"

Orangeyes:

"What was it again? Diet Tab?"

Me:

"No. DI-A-BOT-TAY"

Orangeyes:

"That isn't happening. Diet Tab is going to be a player for us..."

It caught on and was easier to type too. Granted, it doesn't make sense. But traditions must be honored. ;)

I'm just hoping this thread ages better than the Rutgers dumpster fire thread did last year after we play them.

I watched their running back look very good and their quarterback look pretty far below average
Zion Turner is a true freshman QB who got thrown into his first game with no reps with the 1"s. I thought he looked great considering that. In high school he played for St. Thomas Aquinas and won 3 state championships at the highest level in Florida. They were down only 6 points with 7 minutes left and the refs called a terrible pass interference on a long 3rd down to give the game to USU. Turner is never going to give up the starting spot from here on out.

Let’s see if he can’t hit 50% of his throws before he gets called the savior. Not too long ago many people here thought the answer to Syracuse's QB woes sat on the bench with the last name Morgan or Markiewicz. Seeing as neither of those have cracked the 3 deep at either of there schools (lamson injury not withstanding), i would say talent evaluation isn’t always up to par.

1 loss vs a history of missteps, misdeeds, and general incompetence

Plus it’s still fun to laugh at them - don’t see that changing

I agree on the defense. I only caught bits and pieces of the game - their offense looked incompetent with a few explosive plays mixed in. Not unlike us in 2020.

Many? I don’t think so. Stopgap, or competent backup maybe.

The battle for the CousCuse trophy continues!
Mora has really put UCONN on a great trajectory, he's done some excellent work over there. I thought Don Brown would get UMASS going a little better than they are, they have no QB and no offense (He should have got Lindsay Scott). Still, the Connecticut River Rivalry should be a hard fought contest.
