At some point, we need to address Scheduling

We simply do not schedule smart or for success. Out if all the things stacked against this program, it's the one thing we should be able to control.

Next year we only have 1 built in OOC loss. Would be nice if its 0, but 1 shouldn't be the unclimbable mountain. We have one built in for 2017 as well. Not sure about 2016.

in 2016 we are playing ND,South Florida and Colgate out of conference plus 1 to be determined or announced opponent

Yes, I want zero. No need to play OOCs in the P5 until we rebuild. I also want the dates to align properly and actually allow us to gradually gain experience against tougher teams with some well placed byes :)

We just need SOMETHING to go right.

its required starting in 2016 by all power 5 teams

Please make it stop...

According to teamrankings.com, our non-conference SOS was 61st. How in god's name is that overscheduling? It's such a tired, unwarranted excuse for this team's/program's struggles.

Scheduling would help give the team something to build on. Coach Snyder at Kansas State did it so the players would have confidence. Then he improved the talent level. Now they are are a VERY good team.

Villanova is much better than their name, bro! :)

If I have to read another thread about what Villanova is up to this year, I'll puke

How about a thread where we talk about how Akron beat Pitt and Buffalo beat Akron?

I think in non Notre Dame and non Metlife years...we should try hard to schedule 4 OOC wins...but do you cap it at a Maryland/Rutgers/Vandy level with one semitough game and 3 easier ones or go full on KSU with 1 easy FCS and 3 easy midmajors?

All cupcakes, but D1 at 1st, then easy into a better schedule. IMHO

I don't consider ND to be out of conference. Originally scheduled that way, sure, but now it's a perk of ACC membership.

I hear you on the bye weeks. We really need that to work out better next year. I'm worried, not because of who we scheduled (USF) but when we scheduled it (October). ACC could easily leave us without a week 2 game again. I mean, would they be dying to get us on TV on a Friday night in week 2 after how we played this year?

I also feel like if we schedule 4 bunnies, we'll figure out a way to screw one up.

I think 3 non-P5 teams every year should be the plan. 1 tough game a year is fine. I wouldn't schedule 2 P5 teams in a year until we are winning 7/8 regular season games for consecutive years.

This year we had no built in losses. Maryland and Notre Dame are just not that good. ND lost 4 of the last 5. Most of those were close, they're not terrible. But they're just ok

Agree 100%. It may be slight of hand, but right now we need to find a way to get all of the wins we can. Bottom tier bowls might be meaningless in the big scheme of things, but bowls give the coaching staff an important positive story to sell on the recruiting trail.

This is a good point, which should make the Marylands of the world a welcome sight (rather than, say, LSU).

Although, a couple questions.

1. What's the definition of "required"? What if we don't do it?
2. Do you know if ND counts for us in the years we play them?

1. It's an ACC requirement. If we don't comply, maybe they withhold TV money or ban us from bowls?

2. ND does count as a P5 opponent.

This isn't 1998, we're not playing Tennessee, Michigan AND NC State OOC anymore.

If Maryland at home is "over scheduling" than maybe that's a sign that we're a dreadful *cking program.

If we didn't totally suck we could've beat Clemson and ND this year. They certainly gave us every opportunity. Neither are world beaters.

Maybe we should drop out of the ACC and join the American? I'm sure UConn would be happy to take our place.

I heard somewhere, this might not be right, that Syracuse was the only football team in the country, D1 or NFL, that played nine weeks in a row without a bye. At the least, Nunes says we are the only ACC school that did it.

It is insanity to impose this on a team once. If they do two years in a row, I will be extremely disappointed.

I think this is the issue way more than I think we "over-scheduled" in terms of the teams that were/are on our non-conference schedule.

but that game has no say in conference standings

it wont happen next year most of the byes will be in late September or October with a few in early november

I was thinking in the context of trying to schedule an easier OOC. We don't really have a choice in that one, so it's not worth being part of the exercise that we're scheduling too hard.
