With Kansas getting De Sousa back for next year, I’m all for just openly paying players.

Let’s have JB call a presser and directly tell players how much we’re willing to pay them. Might as well have him wearing a t shirt with a giant middle finger and a banner behind him that celebrates 1047 wins while we’re at it.

The ncaa has been completely castrated by these trials.

We are a tier below the programs that have free reign apparently.

I'll raise that bid.

It's never right to do wrong just because someone else is doing it. Unfortunately we have too much of that mentality at all levels of society today. Starts with gutter politics at the highest level.

These problems scream for a new NCAA that actually organizes, governs and Cares for college athletics.

Time for Adam Weitsman to open up his checkbook.
Just gotta make sure he pays the parents/handlers/guardians, not the player himself. Plausible deniability and all that.

The problem is that the NCAA can't even decide what college athletics fundamentally are anymore.

It was presumably easier when there was a real aura of amateurism about college athletics, but now with all of the money flooding in...and with the NCAA taking the biggest cut of it, how do they differentiate between what they need to allow to go on so that they don't hurt their sacred cash cow and what is truly a dollar too far.

the problem with ncaa investigations is they take forever. And they don’t have subpoena power, so it’s difficult to get people to testify about this stuff under oath.

that's what the theory is now since these decisions are being made by school administrators and athletic directors.

Honestly, let’s do it. I don’t even care anymore. Everyone else does. How many have we lost that could have and would have come had there not been funny business? I don’t know, but it is to the point now that there are no incentives not to cheat.

Might as well if we are going to continue to lose guys to early entry, we need to start recruiting much better if we want to go back to being a big time program.

I care, and Im proud that we dont. We’ve had some average past few seasons and some recent final fours. We’ll be back to our moment.

Why don't we just switch to a minor league system with the schools acting as the teams?

Players get paid and don't have to go to class.
NBA and NFL still get their developmental league.
Schools make money.

Win win win.

Beats the sham facade of amateurism.

Walter Byers, when he was prez of the NCAA in the 50s, invented the term student athlete, which actually means nothing but covers not paying the players because they're students, which makes them amateurs, exempts the NCAA from liability if a player gets injured, and because they're athletes they don't have to meet academic standards. It's at the root of the NCAA's hypocrisy.
