I think we have established here already that Athlon sucks and is a worthless rag. It's toilet paper for survivalists. I know that's what I would bring if I were on Naked and Afraid.

I honestly didn't know Athlon did anything outside of preseason rankings.

We all think they'll be wrong. But they're basically just saying that we beat 1 of the 5 worst teams in the ACC, we'll play another one in that group (Wake) but that all the other teams are ahead of us. Not that big a deal, we just need to prove them wrong. I'd guess they think of us as the 9th best team in this league (with one Virginia school and 4 North Carolina schools behind us). If UVA, Duke or UNC were on our future schedule they'd probably adjust that number upward.

I just really hope they're not right. And I hope we start proving it wrong in just 4 days.

wow - had no idea that athlon even did anything during the season. this is literally the first time I've ever seen someone reference anything after they rush their worthless projections onto the newsstand before anyone else so people who can't wait for real information and are just dying to read anything about football will give them some money.

Same here. What do they do mid-season? I think they are giving the other ACC teams a little too much credit. I'd agree that every team we have left is capable of beating SU but other than FSU none are obvious big favorites. If our big uglies continue to make some holes our backs will keep us in most games. I hinestly do not expect myuch out of our passing game the rest of the way but even without it we can win 2-3 more games. I do think that BC is still a game we should win but its not the lock many have been saying since preseason.

The one thing I'll give Athlon credit for, and it's the reason I do often still buy it, is that it's always the first preview to hit the web and the shelves.

It's amazing what the GROB years did to this program, we haven't been world beaters the past 4-5 years but we have held our own with most of the ACC middle pack, won some good games, couple of bowl games, sent some guys to the league, etc. Yet, somehow that 4 year GROB stint is so tough to shake, a tad frustrating for sure and when you take a publication that doesn't do its homework you still get a ton of this crap.

The reason they are so out in front is that they rely heavily on past performance. We lost coaches and NFL players and are in a new conference ergo they think we will struggle.

That doesn't take into account the new coaches and the current players figuring things out as the season progresses or Hunts feet, etc.

I don't think it is unreasonable. Wake Forest could be the only game in which this team is favored. Of course that will change if they win more games before Pitt and BC come to town.
