There is so much sugar added to our foods. For instance, I bought some individual containers of apple sauce labeled "Original" and found them sicky sweet. They contained 9 grams of added sugar. Yuk!

Canmbell's Tomato Soup contains 12 G of sugar per serving. Yeah, and they say there are two and a half serving in a can. So there is actually 15 G of sugar in a half can serving. That's like a tomato milk shake.
Yup. It's ridiculous.

Intermittent fasting works because you've chosen a huge chunk of time to not consume anything. If you fasted for 16 hours but ate 4,000 calories in those other 8 hours you'd be gaining weight, assuming you weren't doing elite training 4+ times a week.

Agree somewhat but the benefit of fasting is several fold (see below). That said doing exercise is a benefit multiplier.

Here are some changes that occur in your body when you fast:

  • Human Growth Hormone (HGH): The levels of growth hormone skyrocket, increasing as much as 5-fold. This has benefits for fat loss and muscle gain, to name a few
  • Insulin: Insulin sensitivity improves and levels of insulin drop dramatically. Lower insulin levels make stored body fat more accessible
  • Cellular repair: When fasted, your cells initiate cellular repair processes. This includes autophagy, where cells digest and remove old and dysfunctional proteins that build up inside cells
  • Gene expression: There are changes in the function of genes related to longevity and protection against disease

Finally, your body adjusts. Most of us are used to feeding and grazing all day long. Your cravings will reduce. I drink a lot of black or green iced tea (no sugar) during the fasting and I brew it with some decaf tea bags along with hi test tea bags to lower the caffeine intake (by 1/3rd).
