Babers fired according to Thamel

It's strange. I wanted to move on from Dino, but feel a little sad, too. He was a great representative for the school, always seemed to treat everyone respectfully, which matters to me. I feel bad for the assistant coaches and their families and hope we can retain a few of them, particularly Fisher and Campanile. I'm sure it is difficult for many of the players, as well.

Is it bad that I’m not excited and that I just assume the next coach will have a similar ceiling? SU football has ruined my ability to be optimistic.

Strongly disagree. Cuse under Babers was one of the most undisciplined teams in the country year in, year out. He was perhaps the worst in-game coach of any team I've ever played close attention to, and last night alone was a masterpiece of mind-boggling decisions.

SU definitely faces some underlying structural challenges in the current landscape, but Babers totally failed to control the things he could control.

Great post. And I agree, it isn't something to celebrate, but the results are what they are.

I actually expected Dino to be let go after BC. But I think this timing makes a lot of sense.

First of all, there are a lot of interesting candidates out there. And pulling the trigger now enables us to get a jump on identifying / locking in the replacement before other teams get going.

Second, you have the possibility of going to a bowl game. What if we didn't fire Dino, and we win next week? Then what do you do? Wouldn't make sense to fire him at that point, before the bowl -- so would you get stuck waiting for 3-4 more weeks? That puts you behind the 8-ball.

And what if you win against Wake, and somehow win the bowl to get to 7 wins? Do you fire him then? I mean, it would be justified, but I think there would have to at least be conversations about not letting him go.

Which is why you remove that possibility from being a factor by pulling the trigger now.

Very disappointed that this season went south.
It had to be done and it had to be done now. Giving him an opportunity to squeak out a bowl birth paints you into a corner.

The coaches that we’ve let go, P included, I’ve agreed on the timing for all of them. What I haven’t agreed upon was the ultimate profile of the conflates selected necessarily (GRob in particular) or the university’s dedication to giving that candidate the necessary resources to succeed. That’s largely why we’ve had a turnstile here.

Maybe they’ve finally learned that lesson. I sure hope so.

Didn't have this on the bingo card.

I’d like to see a couple people from this board coach the WF game so we can see how those in-game decisions are supposed to be made. I’ll set myself up with a big ole bowl of popcorn.

Bring on the red shoes. I don’t care.

Hope we get someone who can coach a decent OL. IMHO, this is the one area we have to better than average in order to co Pete in tbe new landscape. Marrone coached that position up…and I think it’s where every other coach failed. More substance, less flash.
