BC Postgame Stuff...

7-5 if can beat uconn. Thats no gimmee at this point either. At all. Otherwise, 6-6. Definition of mediocrity. So sick of it.

If we lose our, we should decline pinstripe or whatever toilet bowl.

I like this team and the players on it, but I am ready for the Dino holdovers to graduate. It feels like every bonehead penalty and bad angle on defense comes from one of them.
Noticed the same thing.

I think way to many people are to negative on here about things but…after the past few weeks I don’t know how you say we won’t lose another games this season. Yes we came back and beat Virginia tech but they didn’t even have their starting quarterback or running back. Got blown out by Pitt. And now just lost to a Boston college team that beat western Kentucky by 1.
It’s just a gut feeling. I know it’s delusional but I’ll own it!!

when the opposition has no threat of a pass and you still get gashed like you are a high school team on run after run, that’s a complete failure of coaching, scheme , and players. if we only got crushed on the ground instead of humiliated , we win

Why doesn’t King play at all? What am I missing or forgetting?
He's way too small right now. He looks like that guy Syracuse lost to Texas Tech a couple of years ago. I think he will be really good when he puts some weight on.

Game results do matter, but when you are judging a coaching staff, how close those games end up being is imperative. You aren't going to have a poised and top-level field general next year to lead those late game drives, so now you need to look deeper and say why are they struggling to be prepared for these games. Why are they coming out of bye weeks and losing to inferior talent, why are they letting teams on their 2nd and 3rd string QBs and RBs overperform and push you to the limit week after week.

That is the concern. The staff doesn't need to be perfect, but they need to show growth, I dont think ive seen growth from a scheme perspective. Offense has largely been Kyle making plays and defense has been saved by some halftime adjustments but come out with the wrong scheme each and every week.
Some things.

1, the other team matters too. They have talent. They have schemes. They're trying to make plays and win. There's variability to that. They're scholarship athletes. Being a backup doesn't mean the player is incompetent. It means there's someone ahead of them on the depth chart.

2, next year is next year. No point in worrying about that now when we have 3 games and a bowl left this season.

3, we have a young staff and to some extent they're building the plane while they're flying it. They will come back as better coaches next season.

This feels like one of the biggest wasted seasons in Syracuse history...I really don't know when we'll have anything like the favorable conditions of this schedule and roster ever again. We should have 1 loss and be a win against Miami away from the ACC championship game. Now we'll be lucky to be barely .500 next year. Indiana is having the season we should be having in almost exact circumstances. Just so disappointing

The coaching has been bad but we have lots of player talent issues as well. The lines being the most obvious.

Agree. So many people are calling this our most talented team in X number of years. Well, that’s an indictment of the talent we have had these last X number of years. We have very good skill position players on offense. What else is good? OL? Please. DL? Nope. LB? Eh. DBs? Only on paper. Specials? No need to even go there.

I explained it though. We would've had 2:20 to 2:25 left if we didn't use them that drive (we got it with 3:42 left down 9 and only 1 timeout left) with all 3 timeouts left plus the 2 minute warning. It's the better route to go.

Say we're down 9 with all 3 timeouts left and 2:22 left (1:20 off the click for not using those timeouts) then we would've known we needed bigger chunk plays to quickly get in field goal range.. plus the clock stops after first downs to set the chains. We could've gotten into field goal range fast.. kicked the field goal with about 1:15 left and still had all three timeouts left.

Using them early forced us to have to get the onside kick after scoring.
When we got the ball with 3:42, my thought was we needed to score before the 2 minute warning. Leaves you 2 timeouts basically. And ideally you need a touchdown there, not a fg. It was a long shot either way. The game should have never been this close. I work with Cam Wards Dad. He'll be giving me Tuesday morning, and it will suck a little more because we should've beaten those guys.

1) Of course, but the schemes should never be this far apart, not when you are making as much money as the staff is. There are teams that can go an entire year not giving up 200 yards rushing for the year, this team has allowed it several times. As for the backups, there is a reason they aren't playing. THink about Syracuse, CDRW was sitting behind a broken Shrader for a reason. Not everyone is Arch manning, most are CDRWs

2) Well of course, but as a fan, its not unfair to look to next year and say "if not last year with all that hype and talent, when?" The freshman pipeline is not filled with any top tier talent so the pressure will be on to make another splash in the portal. Will Syracuse be attractive for another topflight QB after yet another year of poor offensive line play? Will you find another Diggs or Meeks level guy if you dont have that previous team connection anymore?

3) They are young, and i hope they show growth. I just havent seen it yet.

How much money the staff makes is irrelevant.

Not using them is the much better option. We'd have to go about 50 yards in 1:10 to kick a field goal with the 2 minute warning plus the clock stops briefly after first downs. That would've left us 1:12 and all three timeouts left if we did it that way.

Using the timeouts early wasn't the right move. We never got the ball back after we scored.

RE: offense though, I have a huge problem with the # of times we went empty when we were clearly struggling with protection especially on the left side against a legit talent. Not recognizing and acting on that is a huge red flag for me. You want Allen running routes? Fine. Have him chip and release. Live with only 3 wideouts on the field and bring a tightend or extra lineman in.

It doesn’t matter if you’re limiting your downfield options if you can’t throw it anyway!

Another point about offense that I mentioned in game thread—

We aren’t helping, clearly, up front. But McCord, imo, doesn’t do a good job stepping up. He has that little spin out backwards to try to keep something happening but stepping up in the pocket and taking some more scrambles north occasionally would help a lot.
