BC Postgame Stuff...

If McCord went to BC they might be undefeated. No school does less with such a great OL like BC.

They build an incredible line and then play football like it’s 1947

Fran and staff has their positives, but Cignetti and Indiana sure looks like a well coached team vs Michigan.
That's great. Happy for them.

People realize Fran's working out though so far, right? Like, you can always find someone in college football that you look at and feel like you're not doing everything in comparison (Bama's losing their minds for example).

This season is actually going pretty much to plan. We've had some good wins. Lost some games to some crappy teams that we think Fran will handle as he gets more experience and settles in. The trajectory is great.

Fran's actually getting harshly graded because McCord's been so good.

We will struggle with UConn who is currently getting worked by Holland patent? At home? Gameday histrionics are mind bottling!!
Let’s be real I’m nervous about this game specifically. This would be a HUGE loss for the Athletic Department. It’s hard enough on the basketball side, don’t need it on the football side as well.

The few positives were that McCord had a strong final 3 quarters today. LeQuint Allen played hard and had some good blitz pickups that saved McCord from being blown up even more than he already was. It was nice to see OG show up again and his catch was incredible for the TD. Darrell Gill looked solid today (I was calling for him after that Hatcher play that got him benched), as did Meeks. Barron made a couple of good plays. Stonehouse had 2 good onside kicks.

Now the many downsides… Both our lines got bullied today, no question about it. Weatherspoon looked like a turnstile in pass pro, and he has actually been somewhat decent for most of the year. But he got manhandled all day long. You would have sworn BC has NFL caliber dlinemen across the board today. We consistently have made other teams look like they are loaded on the dline (outside of VT, who coincidentally actually have a really good dline).

Hatcher looked terrible early on the outside where he gave up on the play. I was adamant before the year that he should not be the starter and he made me look a little dumb for 2-3 games, but he’s reverted to what he’s been his previous couple of years. I’d rather Ross, JRS, Gill, or frankly anyone else get his PT at this point. Not having a second RB I think is really hurting us. BC’s 4th string RB looked like an all-ACC back comparatively.

The defense being grossly unprepared for BC’s running attack is what really frustrates me. We did not have a plan to attack their offense. We played conservatively defensively early and they gashed us. We frankly were lucky they only had 14 at half. Unfortunately we didn’t capitalize on the mistakes that held BC to just 14 at half too. Every week our defense takes poor angles and does not wrap up. It’s so frustrating to watch our safeties only use their shoulder to bring guys down or be dragged 5-10 yards as they poorly attempt to force a fumble. Diggs was a non-factor today and that is not the first time. He’s had some big moments this year but he also disappears. I’d like to see him brought off the edge more. Chestnut was invisible except for his late penalty.

Erob’s decision to bring 3 on a 3rd and 4 when their back-up QB came in almost drove me insane. We dropped 7 with a spy and there was a receiver across the middle wide open. What’s even the point of dropping that many if you can’t cover anyone. I’d rather our defense go down swinging trying to create havoc and make a play (& we would occasionally be letting up a big one) than what we are seeing. Every time one of BC’s running backs ran the ball it felt like it was a guaranteed 8 yards. Our defenders could not keep any gap integrity, or containment, and they also were consistently driven backwards. There were a number of plays where the runningback could have skipped their way to a first down without being touched. Heck, at least 2 of their touchdowns were untouched walk-ins from like 15 out. BC showed us what a good run blocking scheme and solid execution looks like.

I hate everything about our defensive scheme. It’s like we are doing a really, really poor imitation of Tony White’s bend but don’t break defense. A major difference being that Tony White was not terrified of blitzing and was consistently made great calls. Erob better be recruiting his arse off to make up for whatever defense he’s calling this year. Our defense is purely reactive and it is not dictating any facet of the game. It’s painful to watch. We have no defensive identity.

/End rant/

At this point in Fran’s young head coaching career I think we would need a 1.25x talent advantage to beat seasoned coaches like Narduzzi (barf) and O’Brien on the road. They are way ahead of him at this point.
There are ten billion colleges out there where people can learn how to be a head coach that we could've gotten

He needs to be as good as those guys, he got the same job

Over 300 yards rushing when we know that is all they were going to do is still mind blowing to me. Like what kind of game plan on defense did we install? So bad so bad
Miami gave up 279 yards rushing to GT and King couldn’t throw the ball. He threw it five times. GT was one dimensional and Miami still couldn’t stop them. Sound familiar?

Ok there, coaching is much more than gameday. He may already be on par or better than those guys in the recruiting and overall team management. On gameday, it takes time as a coach to get that consistency. The goal is overtime Fran’s bad days go down to almost 0 a season.

Ooh! Do we get to play transitive property games of our own now that GT beat Miami and we beat GT?

Offense in first quarters/halves definitely needs to be better. That’s 3 games in a row with meh starts.

But let’s be real— first time BC scored over 30 all year except against Duquesne!

Team has real ready-to-play and focus issues.

Deer in the headlights 1st quarters have to stop.

Plus when we went up in the second half and defense gives it right back on 3 plays. ... Beating ourselves.

Well, that was extremely disappointing.

I'll just say one thing: after they ran on us for basically the entire game, why didn't we put an extra man or two in the box?

We had 4 and 5 guys in the secondary well into the second half, when we knew they were going to run the ball to run the clock.

Most games our O doesn’t show until 20 mins into the game. Been worse these last two.

UCONN is in the bag not worried at all about that. I am however worried about Cal and there is a huge difference between finishing 7-5 or 8-4.

I think we will all be satiated with 8 wins, 7 wins however will feel like an underachievement.

agree. And McCord hasn’t exactly had a clean pocket. We’re making do.
