BC's QB Anthony Brown

The Clemson fans were whining a ton about our "dirty" play taking out Sunshine this season...but they forget plays like last night and the WWE move on us in 2016.

Well when you have Goldberg as your Strength & Conditioning Coach, you do WWE things.

After that play I was waiting for a reaction from Kirk Herbstreit, but he never commented. Chris Fowler questioned the hit and called it violent, but Herbstreit pretty much remained silent.

Meanwhile Clemson's offense came back down to earth.

Doh, I just noticed the other thread on this topic.

Herbie gives you nothing, stays neutral and looks pretty. He is an absolute waste of film. He has the name, but gives you nothing in terms of analysis and team breakdowns. Coach Corso status post stroke gives us more insightful analysis.

In the NFL, it clearly would've been, no questions asked. From just watching the play live, and the re-play, it appeared clear that that #42 (who hasn't missed too many meals) purposely wanted to make sure his rotund body cemented him into that cold turf. Even when the lard got up, he implanted his chest and used it against Brown's body.

The first game of the NFL season this year when the Browns played the Steelers, Myles Garrett almost sacked Big Ben, but Ben got rid of the ball just a moment sooner. Garrett's body partially landed on top of Ben, which there was really no way to avoid it by the specific angle Garrett was on in route to getting to Ben, and Garrett got flagged for unnecessary roughness.

In comparing the two, last night's was night and day different, with last night's seemingly being considerably more egregious.
But, the NFL came out afterward and said that it shouldn't have been a penalty on Garrett. The NFL has been pretty consistent this season with the quiet mid-week apology to the Browns for a bad, critical call.

Definitely wasn't an illegal play in college. Some people are once again grasping at straws.
You should be happy. He intended to put him out of the game, and he did, and that insured your victory.

These things happen in a violent game, SU did close to the same thing to Bryant at the Dome.

Any news on Brown?

Bryant was running with the ball. He shouldn't have played that game, but his coach was arrogant about how easy a game it should have been for his team. I do hope Brown is recovering.

He was under pressure and was moving to escape it.

His coach knew it was a big game away from home and wanted to start his experienced QB, arrogence had nothing to do with it.

He was hobbled and looked unable to protect himself all game. Syracuse looked terrible up until that game and Dabo thought that Clemson would roll over them, he was wrong and that is arrogance and Bryant got a concussion because of it.

Herbstreit is awful.

During game day coverage on Saturday, they were discussing Notre Dame and their prospects over their final three games. Question gets posed about whether ND could win out, or whether any of their remaining foes could trip them up. Here was Herbstreit's response on the panel: "If Notre Dame blows out Florida State, blows out Syracuse, and blows out USC, then they'll leapfrog Michigan for the #3 spot in the playoff rankings."

Brilliant analysis, Herbstreit. Glad he views us as such a patsy - just like he did against NC State. Here's hoping for a similar outcome.

Herby blowsout Corso, every gameday.

is hospitalized with an unspecified internal injury after being body slammed in the first quarter last night against Clemson. I was surprised there was no flag thrown on that play. It was a violent hit after Brown had thrown the ball. I think BC deserves credit for keeping the game close pretty much all night while playing the #2 QB who is a Soph and who reportedly hadn't seen action since September 22nd. Brown going down enabled Clemson's defense to key even more on AJ Dillon, and it looks like later in the second half Dillon hurt his ankle. We will see how these injuries play out over the next 2 weeks leading up to the game with the Cuse.

I'm really sorry the kid sustain such an injury. We all want to win but the health of the young people who play this game is more important. I hope to be 10-2 anyway and I hope Brown is well on his way to recovery when we do it.

Agree. Not an NFL guy but I know they have made a mess of their rules recently. I don't think people should try to apply those changes to college football. The Sunday passing league is mutating into a farce of what football is.

There was nothing remotely wrong with the hit Wilkins made. It is unfortunate Brown was uninjured on the play. I wish him a quick recovery.

I agree. You never want to see a kid get hurt and I hate it for him. Hopefully he's fine for this weekend.

You have lost your mind. Your football takes continue to be ridiculous.
I believe I hit the mark. I do know that Venables looks out of his mind.

You're correct, but the NFL coming out after the fact and apologizing does nothing, other than adding insult to injury. It doesn't change the result, however, the blown call during the course of the game has a tremendous impact. There's a very thin margin over the course of a long season that separates a 10-6 team in the NFL from a 6-10 one, and blown calls in the moment that are huge game changers is significant contributing factor.

The Browns have had their share of horrendous calls this year, especially early on. The Raiders game was hard to believe/take for all of us Browns fans.

I agree with this completely. Was his intent to hit him hard and fall on him, absolutely. But how do you flag intent on what is otherwise a football play that isn't over the line.

Isnt driving a qb into the ground a penalty? If so, how can it be 100% clean?

It's in the NFL, and I think you'll likely see it next year in the college game because of what precisely happened to Brown on Saturday night. If they are protecting millionaire grown men, it's somewhat appalling they fail to do so on the same plane at the college level.

The statement about Venables is thing only thing you have written in the last several months that makes any sense.
Don't feed the trolls.

CousCuse posts are almost always deliberately antagonistic, occasionally inflammatory and, whenever possible, contrarian.

He is trying to engage you in a debate to see how ridiculous he can make it and to see how far into the muck he can drag you.
