Most likely, you are counting Sousaphones, shown in SWC's photo. Tubas do not go over the shoulder; they are held in front....I always count tubas when I see the band in a CFB game.

Sousaphones are used for marching because the shoulder carries the weight. In concert, I think the tubas sometimes rest on a stand, but as a trumpet player, I did not pay a lot of attention because they were always in the back row behind me.Actually I notice they also have tubas next to them. They are just using the Sousaphones for this number. Somebody had some $$$$$.
Play it at a tailgate and the drinks are on TomcatI used to play tuba and sousaphone in school. I never thought people cared till now lol
I'd say for shock value.this thread was resurrected solely for teeing

Me too. My report from the UCF vs USC game yesterday: 18 tubas for UCF! Very impressive. Excellent tailgate atmosphere at ucf too. Reminds me of a lower budget southern cal type tailgate environment....I always count tubas when I see the band in a CFB game.
Resurrect this thread for something I found today. Oh noooo.
Doesn't everyone?...I always count tubas when I see the band in a CFB game.
