Before we totally freak out...

Here's a list of offensive players out:

  • 1st string QB
  • 2nd string QB (Dungey)
  • 3rd String QB (long broken hand)
  • Starting center in Trudo
  • Starting WR in Ish
  • Starting HB in Erv
  • Starting TE in Parris
Not thrilled with the second half but of we get those guys back by USF I feel decent about making a bowl.
You beat me to it in the time it took to walk back from the sports bar.

Bottom line is we were playing our #4 and #5 QB the second half. End of story. If you are upset we (Syracuse, 2015) didn't do well playing our #4/5 QB, you need a serious reality check.

Oh, more knee jerk reactions from the sofa of a premium subscription in Mattydale. That MAC school is probably top 2 in their league. A MAC school just went into Arkansas and beat them last week. The one we just played gave Okie St all they could handle in week one. I doubt Okie ST was missing 6 starters on offense either. Look, this team needs any wins they can get. Were we totally outplayed in the second half? Absolutely. Did I mention that I wasnt thrilled with the game in my initial post? We won 3 football games last season. Let that sink in, 3. What the hell makes you think we could miss half of our starting offense and roll anyone? We were playing a walk on QB for christsakes. Making a bowl this season is a huge accomplishment. We are halfway there. My lord.

Oh maybe I should become a HS coach so I can know it all too.

At least CMU made it to a bowl last year (along with four other MAC teams).

Didn't know AJ Long is out with an injury. He's not the answer but might be better than anyone we had in the second half today. Got to give these kids credit they way they hung in there. A credit to them as well as the coaches who kept their head in it.

Oh more injury excuses. Hello we played a MAC school.

I don't know how to say it any clearer:

Injuries play a part in how we played. SO DID bad play and poor coaching. But you cannot, repeat, cannot discount the reasons you don't like in favor of the ones you like.

Games are always a mix of things you control and things you don't, right? They are all reasons.

We get it, CMU is a borderline Top 10 team, I'm not worried about playing a tough game against them.

We went from looking like a real, legit, ACC team with Dungey to a team that could barely compete in D-2. It should never be THAT dramatic.

We went soft on defense and Bullough was outsmarted and out coached left and right.

The offense completely went into a shell and basically waived the white flag. Two out of nowhere pass plays we call are a bomb off a turnover with a QB who barely ever threw the ball and some kind of trick screen at our own goal line!?

Punting from CMU territory when we needed one yard to end it and our defense couldn't stop anyone.

The timeout... THE TIMEOUT!!!?? Are you kidding me!? Why do casual fans seem to have more common sense than our Head Coach!?

I can understand the O struggling in the 2nd half. I can not excuse how terrible our D was.Thompson was the only DL who got pressure and we blitz so predictably any coach spends time during the week preparing them for the blitzes and practices screens all day long long. Also our D is terrible at tackling.
Our D has been awful if they can't get turnovers. We can give easy completions to mediocre QBs.

I'm freaking out because I'm a little deflated about my trip next week.

It would still be bad if they were all available, but without them... Are we looking at Howard's offense against BC?

Agree. The offense had some reasons for struggling. Being without your two best offensive players (three, if you count Erv) is going to lead to trouble. Some of the play calling was...questionable, at best...but still.

But the defense, specifically the secondary, had no excuse. The secondary was just terrible.

Dude we played Central Michigan

Our margin for winning is awfully small. With Hunt. With Dungey. With Mahootgehellisthat. But we knew that 6 months ago.

Nothing has changed. Still a 6-6, 7-5 type team.

Well I think we can all agree that as nice a kid as Wilson might be ....he's not a D1 quarterback....at least not in the offense Syracuse wants to run...really poor at reading coverages and knowing where to throw the ball...

Its a good thing we put up 24 in the first half and on some controversial/lucky penalties and calls.
I felt CMU offense was better then the 24 they put up. And they just missed that 51 yarder.

Of course who doesn't think that after time of possession in the 2nd half but in the first half we caught some nice breaks as well to be up by 14 at halftime.

On the plus side, shorter beer lines in the 3rd quarter
