I don't know how to say it any clearer: Injuries play a part in how we played. SO DID bad play and poor coaching. But you cannot, repeat, cannot discount the reasons you don't like in favor of the ones you like. Games are always a mix of things you control and things you don't, right? They are all reasons.

Nothing to freak out about, Fournette is the next coming of Herschel Walker, and we probably aren't going to win next week, not going to be the end of the world.

I can understand the O struggling in the 2nd half. I can not excuse how terrible our D was.Thompson was the only DL who got pressure and we blitz so predictably any coach spends time during the week preparing them for the blitzes and practices screens all day long long. Also our D is terrible at tackling. Our D has been awful if they can't get turnovers. We can give easy completions to mediocre QBs.

Yeah - for reals. Most offenses know we are going to blitz and choose to get wrecked.

Mahoney was 4/4 to boot. I feel better about him at QB than Wilson.

If Eric can't play next week I would start Mahoney. Wilson is awful. Look, our D had a terrible 2nd half and the timeout was moronic. Before anyone blasts the MAC, they have some good teams including CMU. Everything changed when Dungey went out. Injuries matter. Ask Ohio State last year. They lost to Va Tech at home after losing Miller. The same Va Tech who lost 6-3 to Wake. We aren't a juggernaut with Dungey(and Ish etc) but we are a much better team with them. 3-0 for the first time in 24 years. I will take it

We played well offensively but that doesn't excuse the gutless call to punt when 1 yard wins the game and CMU picked up the yards we saved in punting in 3 plays.

We get it, CMU is a borderline Top 10 team, I'm not worried about playing a tough game against them.

We went from looking like a real, legit, ACC team with Dungey to a team that could barely compete in D-2. It should never be THAT dramatic.

We went soft on defense and Bullough was outsmarted and out coached left and right.

The offense completely went into a shell and basically waived the white flag. Two out of nowhere pass plays we call are a bomb off a turnover with a QB who barely ever threw the ball and some kind of trick screen at our own goal line!?

Punting from CMU territory when we needed one yard to end it and our defense couldn't stop anyone.

The timeout... THE TIMEOUT!!!?? Are you kidding me!? Why do casual fans seem to have more common sense than our Head Coach!?

If Shafer doesn't call time out and they scored on our mixed up defense, you would be the first guy yelling that Shafer should have called TO.

Agree. We definitely have winnable games littered throughout our schedule.

USF: 1-2 and currently getting smoked by Maryland
Virginia: 0-2 and currently only beating William and Mary 21-20 at halftime
Pitt: 2-0, yes, but their best player (by far) is done for the year
BC: 2-1, but their starting QB is done for the year
Louisville: 0-3

Those are 5 teams we could absolutely beat. NC State I'm still leaving as TBD.

I see you've reverted to your trye negative self. If your boy Marrone had recruited one decent qb they wouldn't have been in this mess. Almost every good player on this team was recruited in the pastv2 years.

One call? No way - I can throw this thing in the microwave for you .

I cannot defend that call. But with Dungey? I don't think we are in that position and if we were - I think he goes for it.

• 2nd string QB (Dungey)
• 3rd String QB (long broken hand)
• Starting center in Trudo
• Starting WR in Ish
• Starting HB in Erv
• Starting TE in Parris

Not thrilled with the second half but of we get those guys back by USF I feel decent about making a bowl.

Which of those guys would have tackled Hcss so that he doesn't call that to or punts that ball? Which of those guys plays safety better than a peewee leaguer? Which of those guys would prevent the cmu oline from owning the los and our lbs from leaving their tight ends open all day long?

Those are all offensive guys. Could care less about the offense right now with the awful defense we put out there.
