Best vacation spots

Another way to break up the Fab posts...

We need to go somewhere warm, this -30, -40 degree winter is killing me! I was thinking Hawaii, but I dont know anything about the different islands. The wife doesnt care where we go as long as its warm, and there is sunlight.

Where do you guys like to vacation?
My Wife is from Hawaii so we go there every year But if you close to Hawaii beauty go to St. Johns across from St Thomas. Hawaii , Turtle Bay on Oahu North Shore, Ko Olina or the Disney Hotel next to the Ko Olina anywhere on Kauia or if you want the old Hawaii go to Molokai. St Johns stay at Caneel Bay , beautiful beaches .

If you have the dough, there is no other place on earth like Hawaii. We went there on our honeymoon, then 5 years ago for our 25th anniversary, and we are going back again in May of this year for our 30th anniversary. We have been to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Lanai, and plan to visit Maui and the big island this year.

It is very expensive, but totally worth it. We also love Aruba. In my view, Aruba is the nicest of the Carribbean islands. I have zillions of Marriott points through my business and personal travels and own a couple of Marriott timeshares, so that makes traveling to nice places a LOT cheaper...

If you never left N.A what kind of cruise did you go on?
I apologize, I went on a caribbean cruise that hit Cozemel, Cancun and some other place. After that no mas.

Agree 100%, been there twice. Awesome spot. Don't know how safe it is now though. My brother got married in Tulum

Great clean beaches, Great fishing as well, bone fish. Not many people either which is great.

DR isn't bad in the right spots

Tulum, Riveria Maya...are great. Any place in the Carribbean, really. If you like to party, think about an All Inclusive, adult only resort, but spend the extra $$ and stay higher end.

Isle of Palms baby next to Charleston. Another favorite place as I couldn't agree more. One of my old friends from here (the 'Cuse) lives there now so it's the site of my WGHS buds and I's annual dude escape for 4 days in March. Always a great time down there.
My parents are in the process of checking out places to retire to in either: Folly Beach, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley or James Island. I'm pretty excited about the prospects of visiting often.

Ahhh, isn't that sweet. :p
that little move is still paying dividends all these years later. I may be dumb but I ain't stupid! It's the little things in life that keep one in the saddle, if ya know what I mean....

Love the Bahamas and Jamaica. Irie Irie. Stateside we enjoy North Myrtle Beach. Better beach and far fewer people. Also found a little spot outside Charleston called Folly Beach, neat little beach town.

Stayed at the W at Vieques Island, PR - a physically beautiful property and the island has some really awesome, cheap restaurants.

Vegas. No like $400 for a bottle of Grey Goose Vegas, but get a suite at one of the better hotels (the one time I stayed there, I really loved the SkySuites at Aria), chill at the pool all day with some beers/cocktails, and make reservations at any of the really great restaurants at the hotels. I only go once a year, much less than some of my friends, but it's something I really look forward to.

We are going to Ko Olina and the Ritz Carlton Kapalua in May. So you like Ko Olina? My first time there.. was thinking of taking a puddle hopper to Molokai as well...

Id say Cape Vincent, I got a camp up there or anywhere near the 1000 islands, Clayton, or ABay...such a nice place in the summer...but Id wait til the summer for that.

Well, as long as you don't stray too much from whatever resort you stay at (if you stay at one) I can't imagine there being too much trouble. The only thing is the 90 minute ride down in whatever shuttle you're taking. That can be a bit of a pain, but it was well worth it.

A couple of my buddies and I went to Negril, Jamaica for spring break in 2003. It was nice, although I ate some bad jerk chicken and was sick for three days so my memories aren't quite as great as I'm sure either of my two friends would be. I was, however, absolutely stunned at the number of Syracuse students there. We absolutely dominated that place that week. We watched the BET game against UConn in a bar down there, and the place had to have 40 Syracuse students packing the place.

Needless to say, there was a lot of drowning sorrows that evening by those students.

Tell them they need to go further south to Bluffton.

Three favorite spots in the entire world are Santorini, Kauai and just about anywhere in Italy.

Kauai was my favorite but you really cannot go wrong anywhere in Hawaii. If we go back, we'll do half on Maui and half on Kauai.

Obviously, if you want to go now, neither Italy nor Greece work for beach vacations.

Of the Caribbean islands, Aruba is my favorite. Weather is great; food is great. What else do you need?

We also loved St. John but the island is very quiet. Not a lot of nightlife. Food is excellent though.

The French side of St. Maarten was amazing. Food was out-of-this-world (are you starting to see a pattern?) but that was pre-hurricane. Not sure what it is like now.

St. Thomas was nice but too busy. Cancun was very nice but would not go there right now. Hated Jamaica. Cayman islands are nice but bland. Bermuda too cold right now.

I would do Hawaii over anywhere in the Caribbean in a heartbeat.

Kauai has great scenery and all the amenities, beaches etc.
Maui has a little bit of everything, beaches, rural interior, and out of the way places. The Cuse will be in Laheina. It is the most popular island for Alaskan's.
Molokai is the place to go to get away from it all. No tourists, hotels, modern supermarkets, tourist restaurants or internet. There are abundant beach houses for rent many of which are very nice. An inexpensive 9 hole golf course. A pretty interior if you rent a 4 wheel drive. Its been discovered, so there are some fine beach houses but much of the land is alloted to Native homestead parcels, ie small farms.

Stay in the States, support the economy.

Sedona, Arizona is an easy 2 hour drive from Phoenix. Check out L'Auberge. Unbelieveably beautiful.

Very nice, but also try The Boulders in Carefree just north of Phoenix/Scottsdale

Been to many places...would vote Kauai number one (though I'm biased to parts of Italy being 100% Pisan). Stayed at the Westin in Princeville prior to it being severely damaged by Hurricane Iniki...several years later we went back and stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Popui Beach. The island is truly majestic in all its splendor.

Bermuda is gorgeous as well, stayed at the Southhampton Princess and Castle Harbour. Cool thing about that island is biking all around on mopeds. And, no matter where your adventures take you, there is no poverty, unlike many other places once leaving the resort area.

Loved the Dominican Republic...stayed at Casa de Campo...the resort is incredible and extremely vast...which is a good thing so you never have to leave the grounds.

The El Conquistador in Puerto Rico is very nice and Old San Juan is neat...and just when you think you're no where near a basketball court...you stumble across one named after some SU icon. :)

Out of all the Virgin Islands we've been too...liked the serenity of St. John.

Wait for July, Jim Boeheim once told the world that the weather in Hawaii is just like the weather in Syracuse in July

I liked the virgin islands when my wife and I were on a cruise and we made stops in St. Thomas and St. Maarten. St. Maarten was our favorite.

Key West. It is the only place on the east coast where you are GUARANTEED warm, sunny weather in the middle of winter. (Even Miami can be cold and wet). VA Orange and I went there for a week around New Year's. The sun is great, the water sports are great, the food and drink is great, the sightseeing stuff is great. You can get a very nice direct flight on Delta from Atlanta. And there are accommodations at all price points.
