Big thing from FSU game I haven't seen discussed

And if I recall correctly, we only had 2 three-and-outs. Whatever the number, it ws substantially less than previous games.

With that loaded huge backfield on first and goal and they jumped, I wept. You are right they improved but that one was one I really wanted to see happen to see what Lester had planned.
Yeah, when I realized Thompson was on the field, I thought for sure it was play action with the ball being thrown his way.

I was glad to see the unforced penalties on offense reduced. But here's the thing - Shafer has established all of these benchmarks for the team to aim for each game, and cutting down on the false starts is one of them. When the team appears so dysfunctional, it's probably a good approach to establish some modest goals like this. But I'm afraid that in the process, the team is losing sight of the main objective - to win. It doesn't matter how many yards we gain on 1st down or how few offensive penalties we have, if we can't put the ball in the endzone. This team needs to learn how to win.

Maybe cutting down the playbook helped them focus on the count/snap better. Not as much thinking.

You get a pass for false starts when you line up your defense to play offense.

You probably shouldn't get a pass for lining up your defense to play offense.

I do think using Thompson as a pass catcher in the red zone is probably a pretty good idea. He's a former TE, he's probably more athletic than the other TEs, he can learn some routes, he'll catch the ball.

I loved it, great move and hopefully they'll use it again.

yes this was good to see. Did we have a false start beside the DE playing fullback? I don't recall a hold. A couple of ticky tack PI's.

the 2 late hits were big penalities but I don't mind a couple of aggressive penalties without being dirty and pass D i'd rather take the 15 than a long completion.

False starts are maddening. We clean that up and I'll be a happy camper.
