Bills 2024 Thread - Misery loves company

Also I love Beane but time he starts feeling some heat. Kincaid and Coleman 3 catches for 25 yards. Terrible
To be fair re: Coleman, he's insanely young and was considered a project when we drafted him. The hope is that he improves quickly and taps into some of the physical tools and intangibles that he has.

Kincaid was supposed to be a finished product when we got him, and basically everyone praised the pick at the time and was expecting him to do big things this season. I don't think we did him any favors his rookie season as we basically turned him into a weird screen pass/check down merchant, but was still a relatively disappointing season for him.

For better or worse, I think Shakir, Kincaid, and Coleman will occupy three of the starting spots next season; need the latter two to start blossoming.

I tend to agree with you that it will eventually happen if we continue to come up short. And I don't necessarily think it's wrong to eventually do it. Having said that, I think McD is probably in the 5-10 range of coaches in the league, maybe even in the top 5. Will be very difficult to get an upgrade, but sometimes you don't really need an upgrade so much as simply something different.

Tampa Bay going from Dungy to Gruden for example; both were fantastic coaches at the time but Tampa continued to come up short against the Eagles and finally decided to try something new. Idk if Gruden was an "upgrade" but he was the right coach for them in the moment.
Gruden had a great reputation at the time. He was coming off getting screwed in the tuck rule game. Getting someone to the equivalent of him would be like getting Shanahan, Jim Harbaugh, Matt LeFleur or Kevin O’Connell maybe. It’s not going to happen

Wonder if Stefanski would be a realistic option next year if that franchise screws up and let's him go

I thought that spot was bad watching it live but don't think we even considered a challenge
I imagine we didn't bother challenging since we were essentially automatic picking those up all year anyways, but yeah, we were consistently given terrible spots throughout the game tonight and that was another one of them.

I can see Josh having an Elway/Peyton Manning end to his time in Buffalo.

Physically diminished but still capable of producing enough to get it done with a better supporting cast and coaching staff.

Agreed, if we got someone as good as he was at the time it would likely require getting lucky with an inexperienced coach that turns out to be awesome as a head coach.

My point was more that even Gruden arguably wasn't an upgrade at the time, but was different enough to get them over the hump.

I don't really endorse moving on from McD; at least not yet, but I think you'd have to kinda just hope you get lucky vs. legitimately thinking you're going to get a better coach than McD.

Stefanski is terrible IMO. I think Bakers performance since he left speaks volumes.

The Bucs lucked out because Al Davis wouldnt relinquish control of the roster so Gruden wouldnt Gree to a contract extension. The Raiders have been mostly terrible ever since.

I kind of agree but the price Tampa paid to get Gruden was also insane. Two first round picks and two second round picks for even a great coach is crazy to me. And it's of course made a little funnier because Dungy was instantly hired by the Colts and went on to win a Super Bowl himself and get inducted to the Hall of Fame.

But growing up a Tampa fan, I will always have a soft spot for Gruden and that one magical year. Their Super Bowl performance was one of the most dominating Super Bowls I've ever seen too. If I remember right the defense literally outscored the Raiders offense.

I remember that play and I saw Shakir and thought that if Allen had enough time to see and hit him it would have easily picked up the first down (and possibly a lot more). But I don't blame Josh he was running for his life right from the snap. It was unfortunate because only one defensive player was on Shakir's side of midfield.

Been saying it all year. The ONE guy on offense or defense they can’t recover from besides Allen is Benford
I think the only other game he missed was Miami 2? That was a rough one defensively.
Incredible how KC is so healthy every damn year.

To be fair, they were right on the challenge, just not how I thought they were going to be right. It wasn't an INT, but it should have been incomplete.
And just for good measure a 3 yard loss on 1st&Goal didn't count even though I didn't hear a whistle. Lol
I actually thought we'd get a decent whistle in this game after the national stories all week re: KC games. Talk about Charlie Brown.

Mcduffus doesn’t understand value. Even if they win the challenge it’s still chiefs first down in the red zone. That’s your BEST case scenario. The juice on winning the challenge wasn’t worth the squeeze anyway . Thank god they ruled it a catch so we had time to go down and score a TD

Agreed. Due to his running and taking hits, I see the Allen window STARTING to close in the next season or so.

Big time busts along with Elam. That's 3 years in a row? Damn.
I think bust is a little harsh on Kincaid and too early to say for sure with Coleman. Kincaid is an average-ish starter. Maybe a slight disappointment but that's not a bust IMO. Coleman was nearly the youngest player in the draft last year and was very raw coming out but he did some nice things. Just have to hope he develops.

Elam is obviously a gigantic bust.
