Billy Donavon to Thunder?

So it will be John Pelphrey or Richard Pitino as next UF coach IMO.

If I were Foley I would not keep it in-house Pelphrey wasn't that good as Arkansas HC and Donovan turned UF into a top 15 BB job. If they give it to the in-house candidate I would only give Pelphrey a 1 year deal and make him earn an elite job.

Its tough on recruiting to go interim or 1 year wait and see. I'm with you though I'd be hiring from outside especially if there are some legit candidates that you can bring in which there will be for Florida. Pelphrey if anything has shown he likely isn't going to be able to sustain the success.

Agreed. Goodman on ESPN thinks Archie Miller/Chris Mack/Richard Pitino or Pelphrey.

Keeping Pelphrey just oozes Florida goes Tennessee post-Bruce Pearl IMO. Donovan turned that job into a great job, but one bad hire an the face UF is FB school could knock it down.

I proffered this name for the St. John's job, and I will do so again: Orlando Antigua.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pelphrey follows Donovan to OKC as his top assistant...

I know he's a recruiter but he's 9-23 at South Florida. hey can do better than him.

Antigua can recruit and would be interesting. However, he needs to show more at South Florida before being given a top 20 job. St. John's would have been a perfect spot because he can recruit and NYC is ripe.

nobody take such an insulting offer, and making it would blacken your name as a cheap, controlling, paranoid AD and you would not attract any serious candidates afterward

So because the AD realizes its pretty late in the game to get a tier 1 candidate and gives the job on an interim basis to Pelphrey on a 1 year deal would make a top 20 job unattractive?

I am going to say I completely disagree and it would be giving Pelphrey a chance to keep the job by earning it or giving Foley a chane to get an elite candidate after next year.

(Edit) Sonic fan here. Thus, the thunder now and forever are dead to me... exempt for Collison...

It seems like such a waste that there isn't any winter sports team (hoops or hockey) in Seattle, a big metro area with more corporate money than it knows what to do with.

The NBA will be back there within the next 5-10 years

You'd think NBA teams would stop looking to college coaches for head jobs. There's been one who's successfully been able to make the jump.

(You could argue three I guess, but I think the jury's still out on Stevens, and Quin Snyder paid a lot of dues between Mizzou and Utah)

I'd say Stevens has been a success, granted it's early but most teams would probably trade their current coach for Brad Stevens if they could. Though I agree with your overall point.

Stevens is a top 10 NBA coach right now. Of course I was stupid ans thought the C's could win 2 games. However, Stevens is an asset to the Celtics organization. Lebron kept saying how much he respected the Boston coaching staff and he rarely does that except for Pop and SA.

Bet Lebron would trade his coach for Stevens...

Billy D got tired of having to recruit 17 year olds and kiss their behinds. Lots of coaches do. But it was probably having to compete with Cal's cheating that drove him out. The difference in money isn't that big. He is fortunate that he gets an NBA team loaded with elite talent so he won't have to go through losing a ton of games which happens to coaches who take over talent bare rosters. Good for him.

Problem with the Celtics right now is they have a solid roster of role players and no stars. Would have been better for them to have finished 8th and drawn Atlanta as they had no answer for Lebron or Kyrie. The best thing for that franchise might be Love's injury because it might keep Ainge from giving him a max deal this summer.

I agree they need a rim protector badly. I would love to see them wait for Andre Drummond or make a play for Boogie.

I like how this board can turn any topic into a knock on Calipari.

You think Boogie is a true rim protector?

Yeah. I don't really get the "he's sick of keeping up with Cal" take. BD won conferene titlecs in 2011, 2013, and 2014. He went to four straight elite eights. In 2014 UF was the top team in the tournament and went to the final four. I'd say he's done just fine at UF while JC has been at Kentucky.

It just feels like people are trying to take this story and weave it into their favorite "Cal is dirty, Cal is ruining college basketball" narrative.
