Boeheim is smart… probably should have listened to him.

I don’t think the last 2 games were okay by any means. But they lost those game in the past and these guys didn’t. Thats my only upside to this thing. I want what I’ve seen in practice to hit the court in games and right now it’s not. But I think the lineups are creating some big issues as far as who to play with who. And yes I know about the defense lol
Yes he’s shuffling like 10 guys and trying to figure out what works. None of these guys have played together

See what happens tonight?
Defense has been awful, free throw shooting poor.
Why is Freeman 30 feet from the basket?
Lampkin in poor condition

What 8 guys do you think should be our rotation
I think it truly depends on the matchup. But Lucas Taylor can play and shoot and I don’t think he’s been in with the right guys. Choppa you want out there but his natural position is shooting guard even though he looked good at PG. I just don’t want that to turn into a Girard situation again. But Choppa Jyare Peter and Lucas need to play more and I don’t mind if I see less of Carlos. The matchup matters a lot

Hop didn't exactly set the world on fire when he subbed for JB (not a knock on Hop per say, tough spot).

That was a good team.
Debatable, super inconsistent with multiple players playing out of position again, without a point guard and going 6.5-7 deep.

I give full credit for making the final four, but that wasn't even a top 15-20 Syracuse team.

We started two first round picks. We didn't have a pure PG. Gave that up for length.

Hop went 6-6 with no good wins. I don't believe that vintage JB loses all of those.

Yeah he came in guns blazing with the “20 extra possessions a game” - we better get 45 rebounds against Colgate if our goal is basically increase of number shots they are taking per game. It was really alarming that he felt this was almost an excuse

Not sure we really have the personnel to get out in transition. Our best 2 offensive players been Lampkin and Davis - and they will be way more successful in the half court than they will in transition. And with how bad our defense is (at least right now), why would we want to increase the number of possessions we have to guard? If we want a shot against Texas we have to keep the game in the mid/high 60s.

We do not have the personnel to want the game in the 80s. Things could certainly change but right now in order to even score in the 80s, we are giving our opponents extra possessions against a really bad defense. And when you combine that with our inefficient offense ….. it won’t go well against solid teams
I agree totally. Only concern is that controlling tempo requires a PG.

Hop went 4-5 and we still lost 14 games. Before Hop was coaching JB got boat raced by an average Wisconsin team.

I think we need to play more than 8 guys. There are too many holes in too many of their games.

Guards: Starling, Carlos, Moore + 1 TBD. (Westry? Cuffe?)
Wings: Bell, Davis, Taylor
Bigs: Eddie, Freeman, Petar, Naheem

We gotta play 'em all, if we want to win 20 games this year. I don't see any group of 8 that's good enough by themselves.
People need to leave Chance out completely until sometime when he actually plays at least 10 games.

If Red had kicked the malcontents out before the season, without them proving to be malcontents publicly, he would've been DRAGGED on this board. It's impressive revisionist history.
Benny was literally off the team year before last. Why he got another chance IDK and Red suspends him in Maui after a game where he was our only good player for some lame curfew reasons.

It was really stupid to not get someone else for Benny. Everyone else was a promising FR that we wanted to see as SO. Even Taylor to an extent despite it being clear late his FR year that the ACC was way above his abilities.

Landing JJ is what will haunt Autry's reign far more than some bad behavior by guys who have left the program. The dude got worse on D and is going to play nearly every minute this year. Chances are we don't push him out for Kiyan and he ruins next years team as well.

I just want one game (soon) where Lucas plays 30 minutes. I'll reevaluate my opinion on him after and how he fits and what the team looks like.

Starling and Carlos are going to get those chances so why not him after how bad Le Moyne and Colgate were?

Choppa is great as a bench spark plug and I would let him get more experience in that role before we ask him to do more.

We were an 11 seed for our last final four run.
That was a weird year. That 2016 team was a helluva lot better than people like yourself give it credit for. It was a solid top 25 team and wound up in the top 25 in KenPom when all was said and done. We won the Battle for Atlantis and knocked off some really good teams there, but then JB got suspended for 9 games, and it messed with the team and the chemistry right when they should have been hitting their stride, and lost a bunch of games they shouldn’t have. And even after JB got back, it took some time to right the ship. Plus we had freshman like Lydon and Malachi playing key roles, so it took some time to get those guys fully comfortable in their roles.

So then either Cuffe or JJ have to develop better PG skills, or it's going to be a big problem.

The few possessions Moore brought the ball up and initiated the offense, he looked competent.

Moore also has the size and athletic ability to play as a regular in the ACC.

I'd like to see more of that experiment tomorrow.

Of course, I'm befuddled McLeod hasn't played a minute, so Red and I aren't on the same wavelength.

Do people forget that Boeheim lost to these teams for the last 3 years ? And people are losing their minds over 2 close wins with Red and want him fired?! Newsflash SYRACUSE HASNT BEEN GREAT FOR A LONG TIME. You guys wanted better recruits and Red is about to have two top 30 recruits and just got an All American. And 2 years into a completely new team and everyone is insane, when the team is 2-0. And it’s so clear how many of you have never played a minute of meaningful basketball in your life with some of these takes about the team and what goes on
Who wants Red fired now? I thought there have been posts that ask how much time he has. Which is not the same thing. Name names and I’ll light my tiki torch.

The optics alone would have been a PR nightmare for Syracuse University. “Why did you pass over the older, black, associate head coach for the younger, white, assistant coach”?
Hiring on race is absolutely stupid.

It was just an incredibly streaky team. They did right the ship in the regular season when JB came back winning 8 of 9. But then totally fell apart at the end of the regular season - they proceeded to lose 5 of its final 6 games under JB heading into the tournament and the board proceeded to lose its damn mind. Then somehow we swung it around again in the tourney.

We were pretty lucky to get in the tourney that year (not that it was an unfair spot for us to get in but it was one where the sheer numbers of team with a legit case on the bubble was as huge as I ever remember it). We could have had a very different fate and it would have been fair.

At some point you stop being "tall" and start being "lurch".

Isn't 6'6" enough?
Sounds like something someone under 6' would say.

I was 6'7" when I said 6'8" . I'm getting old and lost an inch sometime the past decade.

Weren't people pissed we beat Monmouth out of the bid?

I have zero confidence in Gerry's ability to be a head coach for a P5 program because he has not demonstrated success as a head coach at a high level. That's not disrespect or dislike, it's a fact.

The longer we gamble with unknowns the most likely result is the further and further we fade from relevance.
You never know when you promote an assistant. Of course SU struck platinum the hire before Red. What makes now different is that NIL is a much bigger bag than a loaner car and a few bucks given discreetly. I hope SU thrives but a guy like me has a few hundred maybe a grand to give, not the millions needed. I know many fans who refuse to fund NIL. How much does a coach need when he us starting out brand new with no cache other than being an assistant to a Hall of Famer, to bring in a championship team. Rumor has it that UCONN us top 5 in NIL. Can and/or should we compete with that. I am not saying we need to be Tampa Bay competing with the Yankees but can we be Baltimore or Toronto. Do we have the day to day fanbase with deep enough desire and pockets to help Red get what he needs to even the playing field?
