Boeheim retiring in 3 years, reportedly

Why? I think most people figured one or two more years would be it, I will take three more years in a heartbeat.
I guess your glass is half full and mine is half empty.
I'm seeing the end of a long and successful era. As a Bills and SU football/basketball fan, I'm sad to see the one long term and successful coach of the teams that I follow gone.

It was going to end eventually, he wasn't coaching till he was 100, we get three more years of Jb, that is a long time in my view.

good question for cto , does boeheim become a snow bird in retirement? the man may want to golf during the winter.

I feel similarly, Capeorange. It's a real lump in the throat moment. I guess we'll have 3 years to adjust.

Hurley wouldn't even get an interview. Buffalo lol.

Syracuse can and would do a lot better than Hurley if Hopkins where to not be the next guy.
You're joking right?

I'm not saying SU would hire Hurley, or that he'd even get an interview, but let's be reasonable here. He did a great job in his first year as a head coach. He has tremendous name recognition and coaching pedigree.

Bobby Hurley is going to be coaching a high major basketball program very, very soon.

Didn't Hurley coach there last year?

I would be surprised if the ACC allowed JB's last game in the Dome to be a non-conference games against Georgetown. My guess is that it will be against Duke (unless the ACC wants to be dickish and makes the last regular season game to be an away game at Duke) so that it use the ratings/crowd for promotional reasons.
My thoughts exactly. Last game of the season, against Duke and his good friend Coach K. By the way, where is the ACC-T that year?

I am sure he will travel a bit, but I can't see him leaving Syracuse to live elsewhere. Syracuse is too much a part of him... and he is too much a part of Syracuse.
Obvious follow up question, since it reminds me of Jim Calhoun to an extent...

Can you see Jimmy taking any TV work? ESPN or otherwise? Or when he retires, do you think he's done working in general?

He would be great at a TV commentator because he is such a student of the game. He watches far more games that most of those talking heads. However, unless it's a studio job, being a game analyst involves a lot of traveling to a lot of hard-to-reach places (such as Calhoun did this year). After all the traveling he will have done in more than 40 years (most of it on charters... and not puddle-jumpers to God knows where)... I really don't think that would be attractive to him. (Calhoun has broadcast games from some really hard-to-reach places this year).

The guy is in his mid 40s, and for some of us a massive name.
I do think he'd be up for the job. He's a tremendous coach already and noticeably a players coach/exciting courtside presence that'd do great at the dome. Just think it'd still be considered a gamble for cuse at that time, where more well known experienced names would be available.

How great would it be to see Hurley take on Coach K though??

The ACC has 15 teams, 14 teams play each week and 1 team gets a bye. The ACC could give SU its bye the last weekend in March and if Georgetown were smart and respected the rivalry they would agree to play us that last weekend in 2018 and get the largest crowd ever.
Hmmmmmm

I could actually see them doing with him what they sometimes do with Dickie V - you always see them on the game day shows and selection shows letting Vitale broadcast remotely from his home. I could see JB being sort of a "special analyst" in that sort of capacity.

And not only is he a student of the game, but he's so quick witted that he'd be great in that role too.

Whoever the new coach is; part of his responsibility should be how to figure out to transform the Dome away from a morgue and to an actual feared venue. It's great for the rare 30,000 games but far too often it seems dead in there. I get that attendance is great and that brings in $$$ but something has to be done either with getting the students closer, fans closer, eliminating the nonsense during timeouts/keep the energy going, etc. It must be a demand.

That's a project for the AD not the head coach, except for ensuring there is a good product on the floor.

Dave Pasch just said he believes the new AD will absolutely NOT hire Hopkins as head coach. Will be interesting
And Pasch would know this how? Dave is not exactly in the inner circle. I do not know, but I think Pasch is speaking out of his nether region.
