Boeheim retiring in 3 years, reportedly

Dave Pasch just said he believes the new AD will absolutely NOT hire Hopkins as head coach. Will be interesting
If the new AD does not reaffirm that MH is "coach in waiting" you can say good bye to all the recruits until JB retires. The New coach will have to statr from scratch. 3 star recruits, because nobody will sign a letter of intent knowing JB is leaving and all the seniors will be taken. Any possible 1 and doners will leave. If scholarship sanctions haven't been changed, there will be plenty open for the new guy to use.

In 3 years will be about the time the scholarship penalty goes it to effect. I see what ya did there, JB

All it means that Hop will have been coach in waiting for 11 years!

I think the official title was "Coach in waiting (in perpetuity)"

Regarding Hop, 3 years is a long time for an assistant in his 40s that has already interviewed for multiple jobs over the past few seasons. I don't think he can afford to wait that long.

Pasch knows nothing. Probably still bitter about missing out on the national title year.

How often does he even called Syracuse games. So how often would he be around the University around the program and such to know stuff. Like a Sean McDonough

I don't think the new AD makes the decision on Hopkins. I think Kent is making that decision himself.

He does games on the west coast these days. Don't believe he has been to SU at all this year.

The last SU game i can even remember him calling was the SU @ Notre Dame game in 2012 first game during the original Fab being out.

are we sure the USC job isn't going to open up again anyway? Enfield hasn't lit it up yet results wise.

He's only been there 2 years, and had the youngest roster in College Basketball.

I still think Enfield gets another year or two at a minimum. But you're right, they were not impressive at all when I saw them in the Pac 12 tournament.

Just talked with Dick Vitale (@DickieV), who had strong thoughts about Jim Boeheim's planned retirement/legacy and who should be next HC.

Vitale on Boeheim: "I think it’s so unfair what’s transpired now, the whole scenario with the Syracuse investigation."

Vitale: "I want to make it very clear, very clear, coaches have to be accountable and responsible for what transpires in your program."

More Vitale: "But saying all that, Jim Boeheim is not a cheater. He did not organize or orchestrate a cheating scandal to take place."

Vitale: "Jim Boeheim was guilty of one thing. I’ll say it once, I’ll say it twice, I’ll say it over and over on ESPN and a lot of people don’t agree with what I’m saying. But what I’m saying is a fact. Jim Boeheim is guilty of trust."

Vitale on Boeheim's planned retirement: "I’m really surprised to be honest with you. All of it I think is related to what’s happened now in terms of the investigation. I don’t know if it’s done maybe to ease some of those screaming that he should step down immediately."

Vitale on if he thinks Mike Hopkins should be next head coach: "Oh, absolutely. I think there’s no doubt it was all sitting there."

ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale thinks Mike Hopkins should be next head coach of Syracuse (DO: Schneidman)

This announcement was just to make sure other coaches cannot talk about the uncertain future of the SU basketball program. I think coach will hightail it after year two, similar to how Calhoun departed. He is not one for a farewell tour.

Mike Hoplins is the Head Coach in Waiting. We aren't screwing him. He may not be the first choice of a lot people, but he has earned the chance thru loyalty. I would want a bigger name because of the Syracuse brand, but support Mike Hopkins getting what he deserves a chance. USC, Charlotte, Oregon State have all come and gone and MH remained loyal to SU/JB now its time for the same for him.
You're on fire today, Al.

I would be surprised if the ACC allowed JB's last game in the Dome to be a non-conference games against Georgetown. My guess is that it will be against Duke (unless the ACC wants to be dickish and makes the last regular season game to be an away game at Duke) so that it use the ratings/crowd for promotional reasons.
