Bowl possibilities?

Dream matchup would be

Texas vs Syracuse in Camping World Bowl- Rematch of 1959 title game. Currently a top 6 team but expected to fall after a loss and tough schedule.

Funnest matchup would be

Syracuse vs Texas Tech in Camping World Bowl- Two high powered and fast offenses. Points would be crazy. If a bowl game ever wanted to create a really fun and entertaining game then this would be the matchup

We don’t travel well for football. We are exciting as hell but we don’t travel well which is why I think Pinstripe assuming we win either 7 or 8.

Spot on, Syracuse won’t be seen as a highly desirable team by the bigger bowls, just reality. Pinstripe will definitely be a good possibility, although they may not want to have the same team back a month after the ND game. If we finish strong we could get slated above Pinstripe...in like the Music City or Sun Bowl. Sun Bowl is isolated in El Paso TX and is not going to find a local ACC team so we are as good as anyone for them. Sun Bowl is also on CBS and Syracuse does bring good TV ratings from the Northeast.

Sun Bowl please, if I haven't mentioned this before!!

It is in El Paso. Great "name" bowl game, awful city.

Atlantic Coast Conference
2018: [4]
NOTE:
  • #1 College Football Playoff. ACC Champion (if not selected for the playoff) goes to either the Fiesta Bowl or the Peach Bowl.
  • #2 The Camping World Bowl versus Big 12
Tier #1 (selections made with schools, bowls, and conference office)
  • The Music City Bowl or the Gator Bowl versus SEC. From 2014–19, the Music City and Gator will each get ACC team three times. Gator has ACC priority this year, if both bowls desire ACC team, after Music City used ACC in 2014 and 2015.
  • The Belk Bowl versus SEC
  • The Hyundai Sun versus Pac-12 #5
  • The New Era Pinstripe Bowl versus Big Ten
Tier #2 (in selection order)
  • #7 The Military Bowl versus American
  • #8 The Independence Bowl versus SEC #9
  • #9 The Quick Lane Bowl versus Big Ten #8
  • #10 The Gasparilla Bowl versus American or the Heart of Dallas Bowl versus Big Ten
Conditional Secondary-Agreements
  • The Birmingham Bowl if either the American or SEC cannot fill their slots.

Clemson makes the playoff.
Notre Dame gets the Gator Bowl.
If we beat BC, we could get the Belk Bowl.
I would guess that a more Southern school gets the Sun Bowl - maybe Virginia.
Loser of SU v. BC gets the Pinstripe Bowl.

According to Wikipedia the Gasparilla bowl was moved to Raymond James in May of 2018. ACC tie in. Strictly a weather hope, for me.

Gasparilla Bowl - Wikipedia

Really Gasparilla??? Why not Outdoor World? Or even the Gator Bowl would be better. All I'm the same state.

If we do any lower tier bowls then I really hope it's the Military bowl

if we beat Wake they will have a tough time getting to 6
FSu has NC st, ND, Florida so they have to upset someone and then also beat BC
Pitt still has to beat UVA on the road or VT at home and Miami on the road.
Gt has Georgia. UVA and Miami

everyone could get to 6 or none of them

even VT could easily lost he last 3 now BC @pitt the miami. UVA they could win the coastal or lose out
and then dont have 12 games either.

We don't "travel" well for basketball either, but Cuse Nation is everywhere, due to fans and alums relocating South especially in Florida and Carolina areas.

We'd get a good showing at the Belk and an even better showing at any of the Florida bowls. I think the Gator bowl would be perfect as its in driving distance for Florida fans, and fans living in NC as Jacksonville is about a 6 hour drive from Charlotte.

With that said, lets Gator done! This would be a phenomenal landing for us!

Huh? We travel really, really well for basketball. half of traveling is having a fan base that’s nearby.

We’re like the Steelers of college basketball.

That’s true. I’m trying to remember the last time we even played a bowl game in the southeast? 1998 Orange Bowl? And before that, 1995 Gator Bowl?

Not sure how our turnout was for those, but we were playing southern schools with monster fanbases.

We haven’t really been in this situation in so long. I feel like we would draw pretty well at something like the Belk Bowl now. As you said, lots of SU alums and CNY transplants not far away. I feel like there’s been some good SU crowds for away games at some of these ACC schools.

Because the bowl name is hilarious.

‘99 Music City Bowl vs. UK (I believe)

You beat me to it, we travel incredibly well for basketball.

My guess is we jam the Sun Bowl w/ our worst traveling bowl eligible team.

Nobody is near the game, the elite ACC teams will be disappointed with it, and locals show up to the bowl in droves regardless of who plays.

There is no reason to send a big name team, and there’s no reason to send a southern team (at the expense of being able to send them to a bowl near them). I know the bowls pick, but there *has* to be horse trading.

Doesn't the ACC have a spot in the Music City Bowl?

Gator and Music City are interchangeable. Gator get first pick do to Music City taking ACC teams the past few years. So if Gator Bowl decides they want an ACC team then the Music City Bowl doesn't get one.

And with Miami and Florida State both potentially in play I don't see how the Gator Bowl doesn't take one of them

And that's why I put "travel" in quotes and said that the Cuse Nation fans are already local.

These same fans would support SU Football in a major bowl game as well.

I just moved to Orlando. I'd love to have it in my new home town. By the way, the beach is not much further than Tampa, 45 minutes.

Still, I doubt we “travel” worse than anyone else. We’re probably still objectively good, given our fan numbers and no reason to think that they’re less good at getting on a plane than anyone else in America.

We used to get great turnouts are the USF games in Tampa for regular season BE games with bad teams. Last 2 times at least 1/3 of the crowd was Orange.
