Brian Kelly to LSU

Brian Kelly called them out, these closet ND fans are trying to make him look like the bad guy, I just want to give them the truth. Notre Dame is not dedicated to winning championships. Also Notre Dame has stolen 2 Heisman trophy's from Syracuse and anytime I can throw mud at them, I will.
What about the game in 1961?

How is Notre Dame handling Kelly’s explanation below? Ouch - guess he doesn’t believe in sweet goodbyes.

"I came down here because I wanted to be with the best," he said. "The resources here are outstanding. It starts with the alignment, excellence, the standard of expectations. Listen, you're looked at in terms of championships here. I want that…”
Until he melts down when fanbase turns on him for losing to Georgia and Alabama

I'm not a closet ND fan. I am an ND football fan but am also an alum and season ticket holder for SU. I will agree with you that ND is not totally sold out to winning National Championships. If they were, they would lessen the academic requirements for athletes and join a conference. But, at least for now, holding those academic requirements and not joining a conference are more important to ND than winning a National Championship in football.

Very sophist of you to equate lessening standards to joining a conference. Does Notre Dame lower the standards for the rest of the sports that play as members of the ACC? NO. I hope Kelly comes out with a statement that he wanted to be in the ACC and the school didn't, and that's the reason he left.

Almost like he takes it personally that ND passes on joining the ACC.
Or he recognizes that the stronger the ACC is, the better it is for SU in the long run. In P5 football if you’re conference isn’t growing, it’s dying. Look no further than the SEC. What teams are we gonna add that will actually move the needle, WV? Besides, we’re in desperate need of a rivalry.

Please stop.
Marriage is consensual.
Notre Dame doesn’t want to get married.
Leave it alone.
I wish Syracuse had nothing to do with Notre Dame. It has to do for me because I have family who went there and they are obnoxious.

Just let it go. It’s not happening.
It maybe because you’re related not their college choice. :p:)

11 minutes was the initial report. Now they are saying only 4 minutes.
Yup. The recording was over 4 minutes. The 11 minutes included the time it took to get in/out of the building to the team room where he spoke.

If he holds to it I give Kelly credit for telling Dan Patrick he won't poach ND kids.....Lincoln Riley on the other hand has some explaining to do on how he is approaching that piece of his new gig.

The former OU hot shot is skating here because he's better with the media.

There was no search, nobody turned them down, this has been in the works since the moment Kelly resigned.

It all took less than two days. OC Tommy Rees and strength coach Matt Balis both turned down Kelly's offer to go to LSU and have agreed to remain at ND.

Only two or three ND assistants are going to end up agreeing to follow Kelly.

Did Oklahoma panic or whiff by hiring Lincoln Riley ?? Did Ohio State do likewise by hiring Ryan Day ??

Georgia with Kirby Smart, etc.. ??

Freeman is one of the most highly thought of young coaches in the country and is a dynamic recruiter.

Ironically, ND outbid LSU last January for Marcus Freeman as DC.

Marcus Freeman recruited more 5 stars on defense in the past 10 months than ND signed since 2014, total.

Almost all of ND's recruiting class posted that they wanted Freeman hired. Many of the current players and former players did too.

The fifth ranked recruiting class was at stake, as well as potential transfers. ND didn't want to wait a month on Fickell when they all thought that they had their man on campus.

Sounds like ND got the Scott Shafer plan, but keeping Nathaniel Hackett.

I always wondered if that would have worked out better.

It will be a good audition for the Ohio State job, should Ryan Day ever decide to take a tour of the Sunday league.

Yeah he and Fickell can fight that one out. ND is taking the short term solution to avoid the initial hit. When you start hearing that the "recruits and current players" want him, well of course they do. who cares? Time will tell, he does keep the OC which should help.

gotta see it before we crown his arse. Easy to be the nice guy when the HC is one of the biggest s to ever walk a sideline. who is the heavy now? Just heard too many times that this assistant is the 2nd coming, and he very well could be but he could stink to the high heavens too, real unknown

ND Scott Shafer in Freeman was actually a hot commodity and would have got a good HC fairly soon.
Our Scott Shafer was never getting a HC job before we hired him.
ND had the pockets to hire a lot of other candidates.

SU couldn’t spend money because Dr. Gross was under audit so we went cheap.

blah blah blah. HUGE risk ND is taking here. huge risk. Spin it however you want but it’s a continuity panic hire. Players want him recruits want him bunch of nonsense.
That's what LSU did with Ed O. It worked for a little while.

Then again many of Cinci's current players (particularly on defense) were recruited by Freeman and the current ND incoming class is as good as they've had in a long time and most attribute that to Freeman. Couple that with a defense that has played exceptionally well this year under his coaching and you have a pretty good hire. Recruiting isn't the only thing but if ND keeps getting top five classes they won't be taking a step backward any time soon.

The 2019 was an absolute miracle. Burrow was a once in a lifetime type find. The OC was a gift from Sean Payton and the DC turned out to be pretty damn good as well. Then Ed O lost his mind.

That team was one of the best ever, IMO

On second thought maybe ND will be better off without him, lol. So lame!

For all of you who don't think he's a good fit...apparently he's form the deeeeeep south.

Maybe if the boosters give him $100K in cash, he'll tap dance and sing show tunes.
