Brohm postgame

Yeah I didn’t quite get the pre-game perspective from some of their fans that our DL was too small to handle them. I thought they played well today. Bigger issue was not mixing it up and putting more pressure on their QB earlier. I swear he could have sat on a lazy boy and read a book for 10 minutes before he threw the ball on some plays, especially in the first half.
Isn’t the whole idea of the 3-3-5 is to have smaller, quicker, Dlinemen to perform stunts, etc? Isn't that why a guy like Curtis Harper lost playing time and fell down the depth chart because he was big and slow and didn't fit the profile?

You are correct
Even though half this board still things we need some giant hog in the middle

Even the best CBs are going to get beat by good/great WRs when they are playing straight man. Especially when there is a fantastic QB dropping dimes in perfect spots. Considering what they were facing, I thought they had as good of a game as you could have hoped for.

That would be correct! :)

Jones is legit and Garrett held on one of the more important endzone throws

Duce broke down a bit on one of their last few TD drives.

Purdue has a very good passing game so I’m cutting them some slack.

Their TEs really smashed our D. 87 inflicted a lot of damage.

Awesome to see him spectacularly implode at the end. He must not be used to success. Poor fella
I wish we had some big athletic TE targets like they did over the middle. Would love to see that dimension added to our offense.

Garrett was in his hip pocket all game. He played amazing. 15 was a baller. Have to tip your hat to that kid.
He played a GREAT game up to that point. So don’t get me wrong not take pot shots at him. Great players are going to get theirs, I get that, but you can’t have it happen twice on consecutive drives.

87 looked the part that’s for sure.

Exactly the rules are against the Defense

I think White wanted to play them straight up for better or worse in the first half.

He dialed up the pressure in the second half and I think the lack of time for Purdue’s offense to adjust helped create impact plays like Caleb’s pick 6
O'Connell definitely was bothered by the pressure and taking a few hits.

After that he went up and down the sideline to his teammates “I’m sorry. That’s on me. My fault” well no duh dummy. And the coach lost his mind to the FJ for a solid minute and then the flag was thrown. Brohm also lost his mind on the young kid with the headset Bc he couldn’t hear the play and they had to call timeout. Sitting behind the visiting team bench might be my new fav thing
Since you sat behind the PU bench can you update me on the cheerleader carried off the field and into the medical tent in the 4th?

Haven't our TE targets increased maybe 400 percent this season?

Yes which is a massive step in the right direction.

However we don’t have a big body receiving threat like they do that can just create physical mismatches against LBers over the middle for example. I still view Gadsden as a big receiver we happen to be lining up as a TE. He creates different mismatches but it’s not the same as what #87 was doing.

I missed it. It was to my right and the action was to my left. My buddy saw that they whisked the cheerleader in there asap. Sorry that’s all I got

Yeah it makes sense. I get it.

My biggest concern was Garret W. getting burned twice in the 4th - he’s got some film work ahead of him lol.

Needs to play with his feet more and his hand less; run and stop grabbing.

We got the W, and he got film of a few things he needs to work on if he wants to be great. I believe he does and I believe he will be.

The above is true. I add that O'Connell has a quick read and release.

I also add that

- their O-line held nearly every down, with obvious take downs about 5 or 6 times where no yellow flag could be bought,

- receivers down field (or floor if you are into the new venecular) outright pushed off to gain separation when making cuts, #15 was very good at this,

- and, a complement to the refs for allowing DBs and receivers to play close without calling patsy calls, in general. Incidental contact should not be called and for the most part, the refs did a God job both ways.

They liked the match up against Williams more than Deuce obviously but I agree the last quarter was not a highlight reel for Deuce either.

I couldn’t get a sense for how much holding their OL got away with.

I remember one or two obvious holds but I didn’t see any repeat offenders like the dirtball from Louisville who was (finally!) ejected.

I agree the officials did a mostly good job letting receivers and DBs play. I also didn’t see a lot of pushing off from them because we played zone so often.

I think it’s harder for officials to flag OPI when a defense comes out in soft zone coverage rather than bump & run man.

Yep, probably because Garrett followed Jones everywhere.

Did anyone see any plays where someone other than Williams covered Jone one on one? I don’t recall Duce or any one else marking him.
