Bubble Watch - Conf Tourney Saturday (Still Alive)

These teams are better off playing atleast one guarantee game just to show the committee they tried. Illinois State didn't challenge themselves so they shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't even go there, but that is another fair criteria to earn benefit of the doubt that they failed. Did you try to schedule someone who is a perennial player? For example, say Akron had a better season and was around 40 in the KP rankings, but was still 0-2 vs top 100. At least those 2 games were at Gonzaga and Creighton. I might give them the benefit of the doubt.

Good post jn. Monmouth not getting an at-large last year killed any hope for fringe low major bubble teams for the foreseeable future. Illinois State has no shot.

I'm in the camp that I believe we missed our chance and if we don't get in I won't be upset, it was our own fault.

But Illinois State doesn't deserve a bid. I'd be less upset if CAL got a bid.

I disagree with that, but I can't prove my theory yet.

I think moving forward this is one of the reasons they are going to KP/BPI/Sag. It's a better ranking to try to compare P5 to mid majors, You can't compare these teams based on quality victories. The individual RPI ranking was spitting out too much garbage to try to compare teams.

I think now that they have a new ranking that they apparently have some trust in (otherwise why bring it in), I see it being use to these schools benefit. For example St. Mary's and Valparaiso would have been in last year in my view as they move forward. I think if your top 40 average in those, and from a small school, you will get in. Again just theory.

But nobody meets that or comes close to that threshold this year. So I can't test my theory.

The most frustrating part - if tomorrow doesn't go our way - it all would have been avoided if we won @BC on New Years Day..ugh
I think we're good to go tomorrow, but many times this year I have felt like that BC game was something that could really come back to haunt us.

We were so far out in that game that it's not really like it was a missed oppurtunity. If JB had made the Gillon change in that game though...

I do think MTSU might very well get in as an at large. I think last year the NCAA realized they veered a little too much towards P5 teams. There was some legit mid major teams that did not get in. That is why I think they are moving away from the RPI because it's a tool that is just not a reliable tool of comparison (i.e. I can't justify letting a team in just because the RPI is in the 30's)

But unlike last year there are not that level of mid major contenders. We have nothing to worry about as long as MTSU wins, because even if the NCAA wanted to they have nobody outside of the P5 that deserves helping out.

Once again just speculation.

I think it's looking good for us, but, how messed up would it be if probably the best perimeter shooting and best FT shooting team of the Boeheim era isn't in the Tourney.

MTSU would be up comfortably if they'd stop letting anyone but Potts, Williams and Upshaw shoot. Some of those dudes are jacking up wild 3's for no reason.

Are you worried about Illinois State then?

Another reason I don't like Marshall from Wichita. Instead of playing anyone anywhere after the 2013 final four they demanded home and homes with P5 teams. Then they whined "nobody will play us"

Moving away from the RPI will hurt mid majors though, right? They build up their RPI by piling up wins and roads wins over bad teams. Unfortunately, I think those teams need to find ways to schedule up as much as possible, even if they are playing other top mid majors.

Notre Dame is the anti syracuse in terms of bball iq

Man this team is fun to watch

In fact, they might be anti almost everything us. Great passing, few turnovers (we are okay here I guess), work through the post. Just smart, composed players who execute.

Great game. Let's see if they can hold off duke's talent.

He's right though. I have heard him on Sirius and have heard Fraschilla discuss them. Nobody wants to play them now because the risk of an OOC loss anywhere against them is highly possible. He's been trying to get Kansas for years. He's in Maui next season and was in Atlantis this year.

And ironically, Brey has always struggled to beat us.

Bonzi Wells' game is cloned from Arinze Onuaku. :bang:
