Bubble Watch - Conf Tourney Saturday (Still Alive)

Notre Dame is the anti syracuse in terms of bball iq

Man this team is fun to watch

In fact, they might be anti almost everything us. Great passing, few turnovers (we are okay here I guess), work through the post. Just smart, composed players who execute.

Great game. Let's see if they can hold off duke's talent.
Amazing what retaining players for four years will do.

They really do run that system well and Brey really can coach players up. They always have great player improvement and development. I love watching them play offense because the ball moves, the players move and they get quality looks.

All of those final fours Brey has brought to ND. do you realize that he has taken ND to 3 sweet 16 in his great coaching career. man, I wish we played like ND. I suppose it would help if we could get guys not good enough to go pro early.

He has been to 3 sweet 16 in his whole career. Not much coaching up.

Wait, are you saying our team has a low bball iq? Jk

I was just about to post something about how well they play together. They look sharp and make the right passes. They do it the everyone though.

Why? They have the same # of losses as Duke and have a number of very good wins, too.
Because Duke is playing for a 1/2 seed and Notre Dame is far from that. Plus they're Notre Dame. Meh.

But more importantly it's bad for Syracuse since we want that win over Duke to look as good as it can get.

He has been to 3 sweet 16 in his whole career.
So what's your point? They aren't exactly getting 5 star players. You can coach players up and run a great system but not have tourney success.

For as good an offensive coach he is, he's equally bad defensively
He is coaching at ND . Not the little sisters of the poor. the last two years have been very good. But overall, he has not been good for coaching at ND.

He gets good players. He might not get the most athletic NBA types but he has plenty of stars on his roster.

My point is that he is coaching at ND. He should get 5 star players. A good coach would. A good coach would have more than 3 sweet 16 at ND. period. That is my point.

Moving away from the RPI will hurt mid majors though, right? They build up their RPI by piling up wins and roads wins over bad teams. Unfortunately, I think those teams need to find ways to schedule up as much as possible, even if they are playing other top mid majors.

At first I thought the same. But then I realized the RPI is not helping mid majors get in. The RPI meant nothing for them, because it was capturing a mixture of good Mid-Majors and not so good mid-majors in the 30-50 range. There is a whole bunch of them this year, It was and is an unreliable way to measure a team, So they ignored it, and it came down to a battle of quality wins which of course they will always lose.

But if they come up with a trusted way to measure individual teams, then they can rely on that individual ranking as the main basis to differentiate amongst the mid majors and also as a way to compare to P5 schools-- for example St. Mary's and Valpo last year.

So I agree that RPI shows more top 50 mid majors than KP. But if the committee ignores the RPI for them, how does it help? The new system will identify fewer teams, but maybe it will not be ignored for those teams.

Again just speculation.

Here comes the F4 Patrol! You're only good or worth anything if you get to a F4.
that is what they play for isn't it? Or is Jamie Dixon a great coach in your book? He is coaching at ND. LOL Not Richmond. 3 sweet 16 in all of his years. You think that is good?

Consecutive elite 8's. they are trending better than SU.

I don't think ND's an easy sell for bball. Tough to play second fiddle.

Are you worried about Illinois State then?

No - worse power rankings, worse OOC. Even it's a small sample, 4-2 vs top 100 is superior to 2-4 vs top 100.

You see 4-2 and you say "lack of opportunity -- maybe they are good"
You see 2-4, and you say "they had enough chances and had to do better to get benefit of the doubt"
