Bubble Watch - Friday Conf Tourney (It's not over)

Palm was on CBSSN show after today's afternoon games. Listed like 8 bubble teams fighting for the last 2 play-in spots. Didn't even have SU on his list with teams like Rhode Island, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Cal all on his list. This guy absolutely hates SU.

It can't be anything other than hate, Iowa and Illinois lost by 20, Uga has one top 50 win, one. Palm is an embarrassment.

I don't think there is any reasonable
person that would disagree that Syracuse is on the bubble , pretty close to the cut line. However, to not list them as one of eight teams fighting for the last couple spots is simply naive.

FWIW, Bottoms has us as the last team in.

We're as bubble as bubble can get.

He's reaching troll status now. We certainly may not get selected but this dude is taking it a little too far.

vcu tied at half. nothing is gonna be easy.
I think we all need to reconcile ourselves with the fact that the A 10 will have a bid stealer.

VCU is not a dominant team. Uri beat them by 10 a couple weeks back. Richmond, Davidson, and uri are all more than capable of taking them down.

If the committee values big wins over everything else - we're in. If they value big wins equally with road wins, OOC and metrics - we are in a much much much tighter spot.

The First 16 released last month shows me that the committee valued big wins very highly - problem is, do they think the rest of our resume supports that?

We have 1 very strong charactertistic to hang our hat on and it is unique in the sense that most bubbles don't. Teams on the bubble like Wake have similar characteristics to most bubble teams - strong RPI and SOS - but no big wins. If we were in that spot it'd be more iffy.

If the committee values big wins we're good, period. If they value that less than our things, we're out.

Oh he passed troll status weeks ago. 90% of his tweets over the last week or two has been about Syracuse.
That actually makes me feel better about our chances. I'm not confident at all but some of that was due to Palm. If he's out there sensationalizing us for web traffic, that delegitimizes who I thought he was.

I don't think Palm is being a troll. He just sees worst ever RPI, worst ever road/nautral wins ever, and tied for most losses before this year (even if others will match this year).

He relies heavily on past trends, which is generally correct way to do it... but it's not always the best way to do it.

How is RPI a trend when everyone knows it's being done away with in terms of importance?

I'm fine with VCU losing.

I will have to disagree. A 2-3 record against the top 50 is OK . just lacks quantity. A 9-4 record vs top 100 is very good, especially for a commitee which is looking to find non P5 teams to justify letting in. I don't think they are on the bubble. I their is also optics of a "22" RPI . still some old school guys. If you are 22, they won't let you in because of that alone, but if you have other good on resume you should get the pass.

He also relies too heavily on RPI. Not sure why he thinks the committee still uses it for judging individual teams.

I think it's more of a consequential relation. Correlation does not imply causation.

Palm looks historically and sees no team with an as bad as us has ever made it in. Bad RPI usually means you aren't winning on the road and have some bad losses. So a bad RPI does come from negative "resume factors". The RPI is being thrown out, but we have a bad RPI for a reason, and those reasons are what Palm is using to keep us out. He is including our RPI as another reason as to why we shouldn't be in - but because of our road woes and bad losses, we have a bad RPI.

It is not the bad RPI itself - it's what created the bad RPI.

I'm just saying what he is doing (not that it is right)... he is making picks based on past trends. I just doubt that he is doing his picks for the sake of trolling.

If you have the worst ever in 2 metrics, and tied for the most losses before this year, your not going to do well if someone heavily relies on past trends to assess you.
