So, we all knew he was going to play a lot, but he never checked out of the 2OT game.

Divide the number of minutes he's played by the number of games he's played and he's averaging 38.5 minutes per game. Just a tick off the 39 minutes per game Battle averaged.

We need what he can do, but for a shooter I'm not sure that's really a recipe for success.

I don’t like how we now run zero plays for him. Last year we made a concerted effort to get him the ball off the curl. It’s turned into the Tyus Battle offense for him to make every play off isolation. At least his passing has really improved.

He’s also took a few hits in yesterdays game where I wasn’t sure he would get up. Symir can run the point with Joe at the 2 at least 5-7 minutes a game. We don’t need shots short at the end.

Yea, where are the curl screens and flare screens? the overall lack of screens set for him and Cole and Joe, except high ball sceens, is super frustrating.

We literally don’t have anyone who can replace him. Last year we had options but didn’t want to play them.
We can’t complain.

Could we play Symir and Joe?
Yes but the HC coaches every game like game 7 he isn’t sitting his best guard against any decent team barring foul trouble.

I am more concerned Buddy is shooting 30% from 3. Girard has been the better the shooter this year. Easily.

Buddy's three ball starts every season low then he hits his stride. I'm not worried about that.

JB pretty much said in the post game presser that we need Buddy on the court at all times in order to win. He will absolutely run him ragged. But this is Buddys last year here, so I’m sure he’ll give everything he has

LOL Oh, we can complain. This was very evident over the last 2 years that this was how it would play out. This was avoidable and never should happen. Playing a kid (I don't care how good) 39 MPG is absurd but it keeps happening at Cuse...

I think he’d be better playing 30, so would Joe.

Its amazing, after Goodine transferred its been 2 recruiting cycles and they have not brought in another SG recruit or transfer that could in any way threaten Buddys minutes. This post is not a shot at Buddy as he has exceeded my expectations, but what if he goes down? You would be hard pressed to find another program that could neglect the depth in the backcourt this poorly. And no, Chaz Owens and Paddy Casey don't count, sorry. Talk about putting all your eggs in your sons basket, it just looks amatureish.

This gets you called a hater. It’s been said for years.
We cleared ANY options. Buddy is a good player but people were pumping him up as a first team all-American. He was never a Doug McDermott type player who could carry an entire season. He is.a kid that when he gets hot can win some games but is better as a number 2 option than first.

Yeah, when Rautins and Devo went down, SU still had Flynn and Jardine (a top-20 and a top-50 recruit).

JB has somehow normalized for us that a college basketball team should not only have a maximum of three players in a positional rotation, but that having more players than that on legitimate scholarship for a position group is unlikely and possibly be even undesirable.

Great recall on that one. That's an ideal structure, a natural pg in Flynn, a combo guard in Scoop, a scorer in Devo, and shooter who developed a complete game in Rautins.

The ironic part about this is everyone screaming "SANCTIONS" about why the program has seen a downturn in recruiting. Yet, Jim only usues 7, maybe, 8 man rotations anyway lol

Confused. Who exactly was the option "we didn't want to play?" The back up PG who averaged 21 mpg and was shooting 3-19 from 3 going into the post season. Time to move on, isn't it?

I think it's just JB's way to let the NCAA knows he doesn't need the scholarships they took from him during the sanctions, that he can win with a total of 10, 12 total scholarships.

Alan Griffin could have played SG and we had wings like Braswell who could have played forward with Guerrier and Dolezaj.
Alan Griffin wasn’t a SF. He played that position here to get him minutes
He played SG at Illinois before transferring.
Woody Newton was a SG. Newton played the top of the zone in the Rutgers game we almost won last year and was fine.

We literally had options on the bench to reduce the minutes.

Please don’t pretend we don’t have scholarship players last year.

Those guys left. We don’t have any scholarship options this year. I wasn’t even talking about Kadary.
He isn’t a SG but again he could have played PG and Joe slid over the SG as well. I wasn’t even talking about KR though.

Our depth/bench all left and we didn’t replace it.
We have 8 guys who can play. This is thin and it’s the HC decision. Nobody can complain about backcourt PT this year. The HC is smart.

As JB said, he rather play a tired Buddy or JGIII than a player who couldn't perform as well.

He also said it was incredible what Buddy was able to do late in the game after all those minutes.

To answer your question, how many good recruits are going to want to come to 'Cuse knowing they will only get minor minutes playing behind Buddy??
