Buffalo Bills 2023 Thread

Probably isn't a big deal, but I've always hated Fournette as a player. I think he'd be a downgrade from Latavius Murray if they end up giving him those touches. Simply not a good runner or pass blocker and he pales in comparison to Cook as a receiver too so I just don't really get it personally.

What’s the deal with a stupid trade deadline before the season is even half over? This would be like a late June MLB deadline

It's always been like that unfortunately. I actually think it used to be worse but they pushed it back a few more weeks. Doesnt really make a lot of sense but its the NFL so...

Is this seriously what we cleared cap space for? Please stop signing running backs. You have a very good one and he doesn't get any touches. This is a worthless signing.

Edit: looks like it's a practice squad signing?
Maybe he’s there to teach he defense how to actually tackle and stop opposing running backs.

He's gonna want an extension, obviously, and this would definitely cost the Bills probably a second or third rounder, I'd assume. Don't think you'd give up a pick like that without being able to extend him, which I'm not sure they have the cap space to do.

I would 100% do that if that's the cost. Is Surtain that much better, I thought the going rate for him was two 1sts? We're gonna need a CB1 next year anyways.
Throwing $ around like Creed in Rocky I to guys like Knox/Miller is unfortunate at a time like this.

Surtain is under contract for another year on a rookie deal, so that makes him more valuable in a trade. I highly doubt he'd pull in two firsts though. Might be what the Broncos would want in order to part with him, but I don't see anyone actually giving that up.

I agree that we'll need a CB1 next year, but can we afford a guy like this with our cap space? Tre counts $16M against the cap each of the next two years. I believe we can cut him after the season for a $10M dead cap hit, but still not ideal.

I expect a small move like bringing Harrison Phillips back. Not even really sure if I want them to make a blockbuster type move like Johnson, Adams, Hopkins, etc.

Why not ? They’re just going to spend the draft pick they don’t trade on another corner who can’t play. Here’s one you know who can

The cap is solely designed to give owners an excuse not to spend money. “Oh we can’t do that cause of cap blah blah blah”. Why else have a system in place where an injured players contract counts ANYTHING towards the cap? Even the hard cap of the NHL allows you to save dollar for dollar on LTIR

Yeah it really puts organizations in a bind if you have highly paid players on IR still counting against the cap. Even retired players count against the cap, right?

Word is he is looking for a massive new contract and teams looking to trade for him are pulling back.

I believe they do to a degree? I’d like to hear the wisdom in how that is fair. We realize the cap is designed strictly to limit salary. Even within that system there should be some allowances that make sense. The greed of these owners such that they’d rather save a few bucks and hamstring themselves from winning. They get such a large percentage of their revenue from TV deals they don’t care about winning so much.

well so if I have a 50 million dollar QB and het gets hurt I can go buy another 50 million dollar QB? You want no limits on spending?

I wish they had limits on all the players.. So like every position had a max value.

Good…. Then the price should drop. This type of rental can be a make or break player for this year. This is the window. How many more years does Diggs gave an elite WR.

I don't disagree but Buffalos already up against it cap wise going into next year. Any extension would have to be light on money in 24 to make it work. Not sure he would agree to that but I think this move would make sense especially if buffalo is moving on from Tre White and I believe they can save some money with a cut next year on him.

Yes. You spent 50 million on an asset worth nothing for a period of time. You should be able to recoup that. Your team is likely out of it if your franchise QB blew out their knee. With this newly found cap space , you could take on bad contracts in exchange for draft picks and quickly restock .

but you still have to pay the 50 million. Other teams cant spend that money.. And what do you do at year end then when you have two 50 million dollar QBs and cant unload one?

The union has a say in how this all works too..

You said 50 millio Qb I didn’t . There aren’t 50 million QBs just sitting there .

I’m sure the union was bargaining for the owners to spend less on player salaries

Rasul Douglas to Buffalo...

Buffalo sends a 3rd round pick in exchange for Douglas and a 5th.
This is a great deal for us at a very acceptable cost. I’m not sure what system GB uses but this guy can fit into any and is a very heady player aside from physical talents

Hmmm, sounds like ... SOCIALISM! ... oops ... I'll show myself out

yeah they had to do something on the defensive side of the ball. Nice move, not sure how much it will help overall but it certainly should help to some degree considering the upcoming schedule

I actually think the QB position shouldn’t even count against the cap or there should be a separate QB cap. You draft and develop a Qb. They become great .. then you must decide whether to gut your team and keep him or get rid of him. So dumb
