Class of 2026 C Abdramane Siby (Mali) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/15/26)

I noticed that number, too. He is going to need to add weight to reach his potential and to be able to hold up vs many of the bigs in the ACC.
Yeah I'm sure they'll have him in the weight room all summer. Not really worried about it until the season starts.

“ During the 2025-26 season across various Serbian leagues considered to be a higher level than previous years, Siby averaged 3.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals and 1.1 blocks in 13 minutes per game while shooting 62.5% from the floor and 81.5% from the free-throw line.”

Not that I know a thing about the guy, but this data suggests he’ll be a back up C this coming season.

I have to imagine they have a starter in mind that’ll sign soon.

Great get. Now get another rim protector (plays above the rim) that has experience and beef, we are all set. Add a big body forward like Folefec who can score inside/ out.

Agree.

But take video like this with a grain of salt. I remember back when we recruited Bourama Sidibe when he was in high school. This was pre-injuries, which really derailed him.

In his film, Sidibe would get rebounds, handle the ball in the open floor [just like Siby's footage], and dish it off with nifty passes to teammates in transition or dunk on people. Defenders would try to steal the ball, and he'd go around his back, etc. and keep pushing it upfloor.

My first impression was -- geez, this guy handles the ball like Derrick Coleman.

We obviously saw NONE of that capability when he arrived at Syracuse.

Siby's footage 100% reminds me of Sidibe's.

What DID pop for me was the athleticism, the court vision, the reasonably good offensive foundational skills, the shot blocking. This is a decent prospect, he just might need time.
I don't think Sidibe is a great example. He got hurt and was a fraction of himself while at SU.

When I saw him at the Jordan Brand Classic in NYC, against other elite freshmen, he was the real deal.

Huh?

I didn't compare him to Sidibe. I compared his film, and some of the thing we saw in the film [like handling the ball adroitly in the open floor], to stuff in Sidibe's film.

He put up better numbers against kids his age. Those were against men. 23-24 year olds. Former NBA draft picks etc.

Give me Freeman as the starter, Goodrick as the back up and this kid as the development piece and I think we are setting ourselves up nicely.

Still would want 2 more forwards in the 3/4 combo role that can back up Sadiq. And an explosive point guard
Freeman is not a rim protector will get abused inside. Get another proven center who can jump and defend. If we take a chance on Freeman he can spell other guys for 5 minutes a half

I'm just saying - you don't know that Sidibe wouldn't have been a very productive player from the jump at SU if he had not gotten injured.

This kid has some really good tape that could translate - and maybe he could be an impact guy right away. I am not sure I would bank on it, but the fact that the quote from the P-S states these two international kids were high, high level and sought after by many top-level schools has me optimistic.

Not sure why you are saying any of that in response to my post. I didn't knock Sidibe. I also acknowledged that he got injured. In fact, if you were to go back in time, you would see me consistently being a strong Sidibe supporter during his time here. I was excited about Bourama's potential, and disappointed that he had multiple seasons robbed from him by his body failing him.

Secondly, I am not knocking Siby's tape. In fact, you will see numerous posts in this thread where I've expressed excitement about his tools, and what appears to be some good foundational skills offensively for a young big man.

There was a post someone made earlier in this thread that was excited about him handling the ball in the open floor. I said take it with a grain of salt, because Sidibe's film showed the same -- and then when he got to SU, he never once put the ball on the floor like that. That's all.

I didn't compare Siby's potential to Sidibe. I didn't equate the two in terms of game similarity. And I certainly don't discount that Sidibe's career wasn't derailed by the injury bug.
