Class of 2022 C Donovan Clingan (CT) Offered

Uconn would be a ridiculous choice given his talent

Someone has a pair to suggest this but they ain’t crystal

Is he known for it, or is suspected that he does? Just clarifying.
Personally I have only heard the part about him drumming up hype for recruits on this board. He does have a cordial relationship with many of the national CBB analysts but not so much with the recruiting guys. One example is when Jake Weingarten (and others) reported that Dylan Cardwell was on UConn’s campus for a visit which actually had been cancelled. They looked like absolute fools. If Hurley was using these guys, he would definitely let them know of information that affected their credibility.

Not for nothing - but Hurley is known for pumping “news” to the recruiting sites to try and create momentum.
This is one of the most ridiculous takes I keep hearing over and over. Very embarrassing that some people in our fanbase use this as an excuse and actually believe it’s a thing…

JackBauer44 doesn’t make stuff up. If you choose not to believe it, that’s up to you.
Can’t tell if you’re joking or not.

But it’s not about credibility or anything. It’s about using common sense a 10 year old would have to figure out this makes no logical sense at all.

I guess there’s no fooling you. So, you can’t conceive of someone manipulating the media to create a narrative? Never been done? You’d have to be an 8 year old to believe it couldn’t be true.

So just want to get this down in words. You’re saying recruits commit to UConn because Hurley lies to media and says they really like the school and will commit soon. In turn, that brainwashes the recruit into thinking they actually like the school (and forget about the fact that the coach is lying) and then they commit.

Or maybe they just don’t want to play in a college zone defense and an offense that doesn’t let the center touch the ball.

But you’re right, the first one has gotta be the reason they’re beating us for recruits…

Wow, is that how you interpreted that?

Yes actually, but please explain it to me like I’m 8 years old, I must be missing something
Ok, free your mind. Someone passes along information to these people with balls made of crystal. They then pass it along to the general public in the form of a prediction, based on that information. The mass public sees that prediction and begins to talk about it. Maybe we call it a buzz. Articles are written, message boards light up, basically a narrative has been established, true or not. Now, this can’t make someone choose that school. But, maybe it influences another recruit. Or, maybe it discourages a school from recruiting him. Psychologically maybe it clears the path. Like I said previously, choose to believe this tactic happens or not, I don’t care. But, don’t be so thick as to believe it couldn’t possibly happen. Especially when it was presented by a very credible poster.

So essentially everything I just said, just worded differently to try to make it not seem completely illogical (but really it’s just a smokescreen :)

Whatever, you guys can believe whatever nutty theories you guys want. Just keep in mind how ridiculous it sounds to people not usually surrounded by this nonsense everyday
