Class of 2021 C Enoch Boakye (Canada)

Just last year, Joe Girard played so many minutes that some posters here were besides themselves. You don't have to look for to many examples of JB giving big minutes to a freshman.

Post better.
When was the last time a C played significant mins as a Frosh? Lydon? JB doesn't historically play C as Frosh because it's the lynchpin on D. Edwards can't even get mins as a Soph.

Tyler Lydon and Rakeem Christmas are two that come to mind. Well Christmas I believe started every game his freshman year even though he went to the bench very quickly. Tyler Lydon was like the first big off the bench or close to it his freshman year.

Your one liner aside, this is a good point.

The other side of the coin is that JB will absolutely ride his horses... Compared to Michigan State, where Izzo constantly rotates so nobody gets big minutes, Boakye will get all he can handle if he comes to Syracuse.

This clip is hilarious for four reasons.
1.) The poor heavy kid whose ill advised drive tuned out as should have been expected.
2.) Boakye hanging on the rim and tipping in a rebound which was obvious offensive goaltending and the opposing fans screaming out in pain that the refs somehow missed the call.
3.) Boakye telling the little guy he rejected to "give me that ."
4.) The inexplicable footage of Boakye taking a free throw in warmups with no shot of the basket in the frame.

By the way it would be nice if JB would call him.

If you watch Frank’s video, he's more explosive off his feet than Enoch. I don’t know about skill level but Frank looks like a better athlete and he’s been in our system now for a year.

Frosh centers don't play big minutes at SU because of the defense. And even if they did, they're never featured in the offense like they can be at other schools. Usage rate isn't perfect stat, but Rak's senior year is about as best as a C can hope for and he was option 1 and 1A due to McCullough's injury and still utilized less than say Hunter Dickinson is at Michigan in his first year.

Well, at least there’s a lot of offensive rebound chances. Rack up those boards and the shooting %!!

Fair. But frosh centers don't play big minutes at MOST schools, due to readiness, foul issues, etc.

But somebody has to play center -- and if Marek isn't around, by default it will be somebody else. Maybe that will be a non-frosh like Frank, JBA, or Edwards [depending on who sticks around for next year]. Or maybe it will be a kid like Boakye, if we're fortunate enough to land him. But SOMEBODY is going to have to man the 5.

Interesting that our coach can't be bothered to give this recruit a call.

Might want to hop on that, JB.

Yeah, not like he had a game this week to play.

There was definitely a few hours of open time he could have put to use.

I know it probably seems like I'm coming down harsh on JB lately, but there really is no excuse. For high major college basketball, recruiting never sleeps. It isn't an intermittent activity that occurs periodically throughout the year and then goes away, or an optional process that occurs only when the head coach feels like devoting some attention to it.

This kid is a terrific prospect. Him leaving MSU, and being from a location squarely in our recruiting area [Canada] is akin to pennies from heaven -- but only if we can make up for lost time. If we don't prioritize him, then he sure as hell isn't going to prioritize US, because there will be no shortage of suitors.

On paper, we have a major hole in the pivot next year [hell, THIS year]. We can remediate that gap by landing a highly rated, high potential big man who is physically suited to step in and contribute right away, but only if we put in the work required to convince him to come here.

Or we can roll with what we have. Or JB can kick the can further down the road and keep his fingers crossed that some transfer will [1] be available and [2] be receptive to us recruiting him and [3] choose to come here.

Either or.

Then that's kind of a tough row to hoe for a kid who has already decommitted once because he wants to make an immediate impact as a frosh C. Some schools will play him a lot. Some may promise him a starting role (I have no doubt that SU has done this in the past despite whatever claims JAB makes publicly). But at SU it is exceedingly rare for a frosh to play big minutes and "make an immediate impact". Taurean Thompson unexpectedly did so on offense because there was literally no one else. And his defense was non-existant. This guy will have to compete with at least Frank.

Edited to add: and we're still talking a 2022 recruit. We need one in 2021.

Jb’s paid millions and it’s part of his job.

Bet/Hope he calls today.
