I see JBA and look at the other guys coming in. I think we may see a new offense, with a lot more 3 point shooting and less pick and roll.

I suspect it’ll look a lot like when we had Lydon at C, though I don’t think JBA can stretch the floor the way Tyler did

As this FF has shown player rankings mean squat.

Key word here is THIS.

Historically most (almost all?) seasons have higher rated aggregate talent in the F4. There was a crazy stat up into the mid 2000s where something like 23 of the previous 25 champions had at least one McDonald's All-American.

Prior to this year, there were only 3 Final Fours over the last 30 years that didn't have at least one of the following 4 teams: UNC, Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky. I'd venture to guess that almost every one of those squads had at minimum one top 40 kid.

Recruit rankings aren't the be all end all, but on average they are waaaay better than most fans want to admit. RSCI composite site has a ton of data on rankings vs. playing in the NBA. A quick perusal of any ten year stretch of data and you'll see an obvious trend emerge (hint: there's a ton more top 25 kids who make it to the NBA than kids ranked 75-100). Of course there are some players that are under ranked, or are late bloomers who develop as upperclassmen, but overall the gurus do a better than decent job of identifying pro-level talent early.

or are late bloomers who develop as upperclassmen,
Would love to see some kind of historical data where recruiting rankings and number of upperclassmen were weighted to see if there was any type of correlation with post season success.

It’s definately trending the other way the past few years. The last time Duke and UK were both in the FF was 2015. So the past 4 years the number of McDonalds All Americans has declined considerably. Is that a blip or a trend?

True but to be fair, both were within one basket of being there this year.

If you have great coaching, you can coach up players that may be less talented than the "elite" top 20 type players and make a run. When you have not so great coaching and not so elite talent, it's probably going to result in mediocrity.

I' don't think it's a stretch to say we have been a mediocre ACC regular season team since we joined with one nice run in 2016 and a surprise sweet 16 "run" last year. I guess some are ok with this -- I understand the tourney is tough and a crap shoot, but I hope something changes to see us at the top of the ACC and being a legit 1-4 seed in the tourney, which was more the norm than what we are seeing now.

Lets hope he can play as we are desperate for a 5. My point is that for whatever reason, whatever excuse, we cant recruit centers. Last year some on this board actually said they were ok with losing the kid to the Bonnies because it cleared the way to landing a top 5 this year. Well here we are again having struck out on every 5 on our board left hoping that we can land an unrated kid from the Netherlands who has VISITED GT ( no confirmation of an offer).
Excuse me for being critical of the staff but they are batting Zero the last two years which is inexcusable for SU.
Longer than that as far as a highly rated 5. Sorry folks but we need some new recruiters.

Ill try and steer this thread back towards Edwards. It seems like there's been very little information regarding Edwards since his visit. Not much has been said on all the visit went, if what the staff liked about him, or when he will be deciding on his college choice. Usually at this point after a visit like this there is much more "buzz", seems a little odd to me. Thoughts?

It probably means he’s not coming!

We need bodies who can play center.
So if this kid can play we should take him.
I just don’t want another Chino who will eat up a scholarship for 3 years and not ever contribute.

Well, someone posted that they have a great source, and looks like he is SU bound
