Class of 2020 C Matt Haarms / Transferring from Purdue

It is just as funny as the people saying our current 5s are all of the sudden acc stars because of a few games. Clearly SU is looking for an upgrade or trying to add talent to the position. If you are all satisfied with what cuse has, get ready for another sometimes fun to watch, but subpar season.

It is a strange take to be opposed to potential contributors.
We’re looking to add depth, that’s all. Every single one of these targets would have been a luxury, not a necessity. Sidibe is the starter, period. Tape or Haarms would have had to settle for either backing him up or an AO/Jackson timeshare. Morgan would have moved ahead of Edwards on the depth chart and been the front runner to replace Sidibe. Ballard would have been a project.

The staff isn’t looking at bigs because it’s an emergency. Three guards just left, so there’s room on the roster to get a jump start on the future.

This isn’t hard.

BTW, maybe we didn’t make his top ten because of Edwards. A lot of people figured their friendship would have helped (myself included)...unless Haarms didn’t want to cost his buddy playing time.

Just like Griffin didn’t want to play with his brother.

We were 18-14 and our best player is probably not coming back. So how do you define luxury?

Our front-line cost us at least 4 wins last year so we need help on the front-line if we want to win at a higher clip.

Haarms and Tape would be able to help NEXT year, Ballard would not be ready NEXT year.

Maybe he was scared Edwards could end up having more potential. Who knows. His top 10 list is kinda strange though.

Got it, so building for the future was interest in multiple grad transfers that would immediately contribute this upcoming season?

We are looking to add depth AND contributors for next season. Would you not want an ao/jackson split? That sounds awesome!

Again, an odd take not to want talent, especially coming off the season Cuse just had.

Bc and Greensboro is the rest is pretty much the usual suspects. Does he know a coach at bc and Greensboro that he's trying to throw a bone to?

Everyone here should want Duke to land Haarms, which could send Tape back our way. And don’t act like you wouldn’t take him if he changed his mind again.
JB would likely tell him to hit the road.

I don't buy that for a second.

Haarms would have been our best center last year it would be a huge upgrade not a luxury. We lost 14 games last year and losing the accs leading scorer if you want to be better next year we need to replace Hughes and then some and that means getter better production at every position including center. I keep hearing we will be ok at center that's not good enough. This is Syracuse it's time to expect better.

We have three centers and Dolezaj. Adding another is not a necessity. That’s how most people define luxury.

Do I really need to spell everything out in every post? I know the difference between Tape/Haarms and Morgan/Ballard, as we’ve all gone over this multiple times.

It doesn’t matter what I want or what you want. It’s not even about what the coaches want. Obviously Haarms and Tape aren’t interested in a timeshare.

Stop making this harder than it actually is.

I don't consider Dolezaj a center he played center because the other centers are development players and weren't ready. This is why I do not consider a grad transfer center a luxury but a need so Dolezaj doesn't need to play center and why taking another development center is not practical unless someone is leaving.

This cannot be shocking to anyone. JB wasn’t going to give him 30 mpg and there are far better teams he can play his final season at. If this was next spring, it could be a different story.

It’s not just about number of bodies, it’s about talent. Our three centers come with a lot of question marks - and that’s being kind. I would feel really good about adding a proven player like Haarms, but hopefully the other guys step up.

It's not too much to ask to be clear in a post, so we know your position. When you say we need to add depth and that is all, that isnt true.

This isn't hard at all, I've been very clear. Cuse could use more talent at center, been that way for years.

It's really a simple fact, the coaches are going after centers of various talent and years remaining. While the final decision is obviously the players, this is all about what the coaches want or we wouldn't have all these threads about their interest in centers.

Good question. They don't make sense but whatever. Hes going to UK just like they convinced Sestina last year.

JFC, I said three centers and Dolezaj. That means I don’t consider him to be a center either.

Edwards and/or JBA might be ready next year, in which case Dolezaj can stay at forward. But Dolezaj can still play center and may wind up doing so, especially with Guerrier and Braswell in the mix (and assuming Griffin plays Hughes-type minutes). So no, adding a grad transfer is not a necessity, because we have options. If Sidibe was the only guy capable of playing center, then yes, we would need to add a backup. But we already have depth. You’re just looking for guarantees. Guarantees are a luxury.

No. There are no guarantees.

If the coaching staff thought Edwards and/or JBA were ready why would they go after a grad transfer at all.

Were we 18-14 if that is the new standard than sure MORE talent is a luxury, if getting back to where we were 7-10 years ago than MORE talent is a necessity.

Actually, it is true. Sidibe is the starter. Tape could have started at the 4 like Rick Jackson, and perhaps Haarms could have as well. But the primary role for both would have been to play behind Sidibe at center. That’s depth.

The final decision is with the players. Exactly. So when you say, “An AO/Jackson timeshare would be awesome,” then you have to understand it might not be awesome for the players.

Marek isnt a center on a good team. Which one of our center is better than haarms? Go ahead I will wait.

I know you weren’t asking me, but... I think we have literally only scratched the surface of what Sidibe can do for this team. No he’s not physical. But as the season progressed he showed immense improvement.

He played most of the season injured. He also played in the toughest conference in the nation. He still had more ppg than any of our centers and the rpg was close. There is a reason like 20 schools reached out to him including ours. If jb was that happy with our centers he wouldn't have made the offer.

I'm honestly not sure what you are even arguing about. If your position is the players get to determine what school they go to then you hit it out of the park.

My position is Cuse is looking to get more talent at center, this is clearly supported by their recent offers.

My position is we would be a better team with Haarms or equivalent talent, which is a no brainer.

I will not agree that Haarms would be behind our current centers. He might not start, but i believe, based on watching him and our current centers he would get more burn. It's not going to happen with Haarms, but hopefully another target emerges.

Why are you okay with our talent when the coaches clearly aren't?
